Timer Gates are objects found in theBowser's Fury campaign ofSuper Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. They are octagonal rings with a orange border and a yellow and orange pattern inside the border. The border normally spins around. For the center of the ring, one side has art ofPlessie's face, which is cropped from Plessie'sStamp inPlessie's Plunging Falls, while the other side is blank. Timer Gates do not have any kind of collision; the player can pass directly through the sides of them.
Timer Gates appear in the water acrossLake Lapcat. If the player passes through one of them while riding Plessie from the side with the Plessie artwork, it generates a yellow sparkle effect as it activates a short timer challenge. These challenges create an athletic course with platforms, ramps andDash Panels leading to aCat Shine. The player must use Plessie to complete the course and reach the Cat Shine within the time limit. If they fail to collect the Cat Shine in time, the platforms, Dash Panels, and Cat Shine will vanish, forcing them to go back through the ring to retry the challenge. Everything also disappears if the player moves too far away from the challenge, as this makes the challenge end early. While a Timer Gate's challenge is active, the center of the ring vanishes and the border stops spinning.
After a Timer Gate's corresponding Cat Shine has been collected, the gate turns gray. However, its challenge can still be accessed, and it functions identically to before save for the Cat Shine being translucent due to already being collected.
The following Cat Shines are collected after passing through a Timer Gate:
- Hurry! Dash and Dive! (ring located near a waterfall near the LakesideGiga Bell)
- Hurry! Swim and Slide! (ring located near the Ruins Giga Bell)
- Hurry! Slide through the Sky! (ring located somewhat nearClawswipe Colosseum)
- Hurry! Slip to the Shine! (ring located nearPipe Path Tower)
The border of the model of a Timer Gate is red; the lighting engine ofBowser's Fury causes the red border to become orange in the game.
