The square's name, which means "Gateway of Heavenly Peace," comes from the huge gateway which borders its north side. The Monument to the People's Heroes is a granite obelisk that shows Chinese people who fought and died for their country. At its base is a plaque inscribed with Mao Zedong's words using his personal Chinese characters.”

Tian An Men Square (Simplified Chinese:天安门广场; Traditional Chinese:天安門廣場; Pinyin:Tiān'ānmén Guǎngchǎng; more commonly spelledTiananmen Square) is a public area inBeijing that holds numerous notable structures, namely theMonument to the People's Heroes. Alongside theTian An Men Square, theGreat Wall of China, and theTemple of Heaven, it is one of the landmarks that gets attacked byKoopa Troopas inMario is Missing! (although it only appears in the DOS and Deluxe versions). The Koopa Troopas run off with the entire Monument to the People's Heroes, and Luigi is asked to return it back to the square. He does just that, bringing it to the square's information booth.
