The Shadow Lining is the second mission of theCloudy Court Galaxy inSuper Mario Galaxy 2. In order to play this mission, theComet Medal must have been collected in theprevious mission and when aPrankster Comet is in orbit. The player must clear this mission to unlock the rest of theClone Comets andPurple Comets.^{[citation needed]}

Mission[edit]

The player starts on a small platform, which will spawn two more platforms next to it. As the player moves along these platforms, more platforms will appear in front of them, while the platforms behind them disappear. The player needs to collect fiveStar Chips along these platforms, while also avoidingCosmic Clones that spawn with the first four. (The Cosmic Clones are destroyed when Mario gets the last Star Chip.) The player canslowly approach a Star Chip and then grab it by just barely touching it to prevent a Cosmic Clone from spawning.^[1] The Star Chips will form aLaunch Star that will send the player to the next planet. Here, they need to avoid more Cosmic Clones whileWall Jumping up andjumping across more disappearing and reappearing platforms. The Launch Star at the end will take the player to a platform with thePower Star trapped in acrystal, which the player needs to break byspinning while still avoiding Cosmic Clones, which die when Mario destroys the crystal.
