Tanks[1] are large, segmented, and heavily armed land vehicles utilized byBowser andhis armies in a few games in theSuper Mario franchise. Tanks are usually equipped with various artillery, such ascannons,Rocket Engines,Bob-omb launchers, andRocky Wrenches. In addition, some tanks are mostly square in shape.

Super Mario Bros. 3 /Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3[edit]
Tanks first appear inSuper Mario Bros. 3 in two levels ofDark Land. Thefirst one is found in the kingdom's first area, and thesecond one is in the last portion of it. There are 13 tanks (10 inSuper Mario Advance 4) in the firstlevel, and there are two regular tanks and three large tanks in the second level. Their tiles are mostly the same as that of theairships and other artillery weapons, though unlike the airship they feature moving details such as treads and upward-pointing propellers.
Super Mario 3D World /Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury[edit]

A tank in
Super Mario 3D WorldTanks return inSuper Mario 3D World andits Nintendo Switch port, appearing only in the levelsBowser's Bullet Bill Brigade inWorld 2 andBowser's Bob-omb Brigade inWorld 6. They now have more metalic appearances and appear alongsideBlocksteppers,Spike Traps andCannon Boxes. In the latter level, which takes place at night, the tanks also feature bright headlights. In both levels,Boom Boom is fought at the end, acting as the boss for both the level and world.
The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3[edit]
Tanks appear in "Princess Toadstool for President" onThe Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3; here, several tanks and Rocky Wrenches appear to attackMario andLuigi when they enter Dark Land.
