Sydney is the capital city of theNew South Wales state on the eastern coast ofAustralia.

Mario is Missing![edit]

Sydney appears as a city in thePC,SNES, andNES versions ofMario is Missing!. In the DOS version, it is in the third level set out of five; in the SNES version, it is in the second level set out of three; and in the NES version, alongsideSan Francisco, it is in the second pair of levels out of seven. There are three landmarks —Bondi Beach, theTaronga Zoo, and theSydney Opera House — from which artifacts were stolen byKoopa Troopas; respectively, asurfboard, akoala, and somesheet music. In the PC version, a fourth artifact is stolen: asteel girder from theSydney Harbor Bridge. IfLuigi finds and returns the artifacts to their respective landmarks, he will be rewarded with money and finally the city will be rescued.

Additionally, to defeat thePokey preventing him from leaving the city, he must also use theGlobulator to callYoshi to his location, which he can deduce from the following information.

Newspaper[edit]

Pesky Penguin Influx: Thousands of penguins have begun arriving daily as their home in Antarctica is turning to soup. Most are finding their way to Taronga Zoo, where they've tried to gain admission to the polar bear den. The polar bears, meanwhile, are complaining that there's no more room. Zoo officials have appealed to Mario and Luigi to restore the South Pole to its once frozen state.
City Reels From Recent Ripoffs: All over town, things are turning up missing. Bowser and the Koopas have taken credit for the crimes, and have demanded dollars in large denominations as ransom. City officials have offered large rewards to anyone who can stop the terrible turtles.

Sydney also appears as the setting of the new course,Sydney Sprint, first appearing inMario Kart Tour. Like other cities in the game, it has multiple numbered routes through the same map. The Sydney Tours inApril–May 2021 andSeptember 2021 inMario Kart Tour introduced Sydney Sprint and Sydney Sprint 2 respectively, while the2022 Anniversary Tour introduced Sydney Sprint 3.

Sydney Sprint returns inMario Kart 8 Deluxe as a course in theBooster Course Pass, being the first course of thePropeller Cup. This version of the course combines all three of its routes from itsMario Kart Tour appearance, even though it released before Sydney Sprint 3.
