- This article is about the move performed inSuper Mario 64. For the status ailment in theMario & Luigi andSuper Smash Bros. series of games, seeTrip.
TheSweep Kick,[1][2] also called theTrip,[3][2][4] is one ofMario's various moves that debuts inSuper Mario 64. The action is performed by holding
and pressing
, which causes Mario to swing his legs around in a circular motion similar to adownrock breakdance/b-boying. This kick can damage any surrounding enemies or breakable objects.
The move returns in theNintendo DS remakeSuper Mario 64 DS, where Mario,Yoshi,Luigi, andWario are able to perform the Sweep Kick. The move is activated by pressing the attack button whilecrouching, which are different buttons depending on the control setup. While Yoshi is able to perform the move, due to his low attack power, some enemies, such asBoos, are impervious to the attack.
A similar, albeit unnamed, move can be performed by Mario and Luigi inSuper Mario Galaxy,Super Mario Galaxy 2, andSuper Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2. While crouching with
, the player has to shake theWii Remote orNunchuk. Upon activating the move, the characterspins while crouched. Likewise, theTail Spin fromSuper Mario 3D Land,Super Mario 3D World, and itsNintendo Switch portSuper Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury also acts similarly, though it is quicker and continuous and can be used while moving.
The Sweep Kick is also used by Mario, Luigi, andDr. Mario as their down smash attacks in all of theSuper Smash Bros. installments in which they appear.
