History[edit]

Super Mario series[edit]

Super Mario Land[edit]

Superball Mario is a form inSuper Mario Land. There is no visual transformation, and even artwork (as seen to the right) depicts Mario as wearing his normal clothes. Superball Mario gains the ability to throw Superballs by pressingB Button. Like the similarFire Mario form and itsfireballs, the Superballs damage most enemies, but also have the unique ability to collectcoins that they hit. Unlike fireballs, Superballs do not bounce along the ground, but ricochet at right angles on surfaces. Only one Superball can be onscreen at a time, and will disappear approximately four seconds after being shot, unless it touches an enemy or Mario, goes off-screen, or is destroyed. Many enemies require multiple Superballs to defeat, unlike fireballs, which typically defeat any non-boss enemy in one hit. Superballs pass through the enemies and obstacles that are invulnerable to them. Superball Mario can also shoot Superballs whilesquatting, although there is no functional difference from doing this while standing.

Super Mario Maker 2[edit]

Superball Mario is a form inSuper Mario Maker 2. It can be obtained with theSuperball Flower, though in theSuper Mario Bros. game style only. The Superballs thrown can also collectPink Coins andKeys, activateP Switches andPOW Blocks, and igniteBob-ombs. It changes the player character's colors to dark tones of green, referencing theGame Boy's screen colors. The form also changes the current theme's music to anNES-style arrangement of "Birabuto Kingdom BGM" fromSuper Mario Land, and also changes the "level clear" and "lose a life" jingles to their respectiveSuper Mario Land counterparts, "Area Cleared" and "Player Down". The Superball form can be unlocked in Story Mode by clearing the jobSpiny Shell Smashers. An outfit based on Superball Mario is unlocked alongside the Superball Flower, which has a 3D model ofSmall Mario for the head and Mario's overalls, both with the Superball form's colors. Superball Mario cannot shoot Superballs while crouching, like Fire Mario.

WarioWare Gold[edit]

Superball Mario is featured in theSuper Mario Landmicrogame ofWarioWare Gold, where he has to defeat an enemy in a location from the gameSuper Mario Land with a Superball.
