Thestork is a supporting character in theYoshi series. He is responsible for deliveringBaby Mario andBaby Luigi to the home of their mother and father. This is a reference to the myth of real-life storks delivering babies to young couples. His design is also based on thewhite stork, the same stork told in folklore.

History[edit]

Yoshi's Island series[edit]

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island /Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3[edit]

Finding Baby Luigi and the captured Stork in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
Yoshi rescuing the stork and Baby Luigi.

In the prologueSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island andYoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, on his way to deliverthebabies, the stork is attacked byKamek, who wants to kidnap the young brothers before they mature and cause trouble to theKoopas. Kamek succeeds in kidnapping only Baby Luigi and the stork.

AfterYoshi defeatsBaby Bowser, Baby Luigi and the stork are rescued. The stork then carries the babies to their parents.

Yoshi's Island DS[edit]

InYoshi's Island DS, the stork is not only helping theBaby MarioBrothers, but alsoBaby DK,Baby Peach,Baby Wario, andBaby Bowser. The stork is more of a major character in this game as he is shown traveling with the babies in cut-scenes, and he helps even more by bringing babies toStork Stops. In the end, several storks carry the babies back to their homes.

Yoshi's New Island[edit]

InYoshi's New Island, the stork discovers that the parents he delivered the babies to in the original game are not Mario's and Luigi's. While he tries to find their real parents, he is attacked byKamek and drops them again. Baby Mario is saved by Yoshi while Baby Luigi is captured by Kamek again. It is also revealed that the stork and other storks deliver infants from a magic land in the sky.

Yoshi Touch & Go[edit]

The stork plays a similar role inYoshi Touch & Go in that he is a goal of Score Attack that Yoshi needs to reach. Every time a mode is selected in the main menu of the game, Kamek swoops in and hits the stork, causing him to drop the babies. In Score Attack, if the player achieves a high score and reaches the goal, Baby Luigi can be seen riding the stork.

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl, the stork appears as asticker that uses the artwork fromYoshi's Island DS where the stork carries Baby Peach. InThe Subspace Emissary, the sticker can be used by any character to raise their body- and spin-based attack power by 21 points.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

The stork appears inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate as an Ace-class supportspirit. He uses the artwork fromYoshi's New Island where the stork carries Baby Mario and Baby Luigi. When used, the stork grants immunity against strong winds to players.

Mario Kart Tour[edit]

InMario Kart Tour, the stork makes a cameo appearance on theBaby Mario Hanafudaglider, which uses the same artwork fromMario Hanafuda.

Other appearances[edit]

The first actual mention of a baby-carrying stork in theSuper Mario franchise is inThe Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode "Mario of the Apes". When the gorilla coupleJune and Ward are waiting for a child of their own, they mistake anAlbatoss that drops Mario on their porch for the actual stork.

The stork is mentioned again inSuper Paper Mario about bringingCaptain Gills his own children.
