Starbeans Cafe is a shop inMario & Luigi: Superstar Saga andits 3DS remake. It is located inBeanbean Castle Town. The shop'sBeanbean Machine[1] utilizes a specialStarB System in which customers bring variousbeans to expand the menu with freshly-madeBean Juice.[2] Each drink boosts a different stat permanently and requires a certain number of beans. The "cafe's owner"[3] mixes drinks at the cost of the customer's beans, although the actual owner of the establishment isProfessor E. Gadd.
There are seven different flavors of Bean Juice to create. Making each one for the first time is accompanied by a cutscene featuring E. Gadd.Wario,Fox McCloud,Link,Captain Olimar,Samus Aran, and anExcitebike Racer wereoriginally planned to appear in these cutscenes as cameo appearances, whereas E. Gadd was only supposed to appear once. If all seven drinks are made at least once, E. Gadd will put up a picture of himself next to the counter for the remainder of the game. Icons appear next to drinks the player has already made on the drink menu, except in international releases of the originalMario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.
Every time a drink that has not been made before is created, Professor E. Gadd will enter the cafe and giveMario andLuigi one of his inventions, usually coupled with a humorous scene. These items can be equipped in the extra equipment slot under Clothes and Badges. As with Clothes and Badges, each of the brothers can only equip one of these items at a time. There are seven types of Bean Juice and thus seven items that Mario or Luigi can equip. They are given out in a set order, listed below, regardless of the order the drinks are made in. With the exception of the Excite Spring, Power Grip, and Cobalt Necktie, every Accessory affects both brothers, as long as they are together. If a drink is made that has already been made before, or if the brothers have received all seven items, they can still continue to make Bean Juice, but they only obtain the drink itself.
InMario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, the number of beans required per blend is lower, but the effect of each blend has also been reduced. In theMinion Quest: The Search for Bowser campaign, it is revealed that E. Gadd created Starbeans as secondary funding for his ghost research. E. Gadd mindlessly admitted this while rambling toCaptain Goomba and his soldiers, who had already left.

Woohoo Blend – For 25 Woo Beans (10 in the remake), this drink boosts a character'sHP by 4 (2 in the remake).
Hoohoo Blend – 25 Hoo Beans (10 in the remake) result in a drink that raises a character'sBP by 4 (2 in the remake).
Chuckle Blend – By grinding 25 Chuckle Beans (10 in the remake), the Bros. can make a drink that raises Speed by 4 (2 in the remake).
Teehee Blend – If 25 Hee Beans (10 in the remake) are put in the machine, the result is a drink that boosts Stache by 4 (2 in the remake).
Hoolumbian – By combining 15 Woo Beans and 10 Hoo Beans (6 and 4 in the remake, respectively), this drink can raise POW by 4 (2 in the remake).
Chuckoccino – 15 Woo Beans and 10 Chuckle Beans (6 and 4 in the remake, respectively) make a drink that raises DEF by 4 (2 in the remake).
Teeheespresso – The most powerful drink is made with 15 Woo Beans and 10 Hee Beans (6 and 4 in the remake, respectively). It raises a random stat by 6 points (3 in the remake).

Naming[edit]
Starbeans Cafe is named after theStarbucks chain of coffee shops. ThePrima Games guide for the game calls the establishment "a" Starbeans, further connecting it to the restaurant franchise.[4] Three of the drinks served at the cafe have names based on real varieties of coffee: the Hoolumbian, Chuckoccino, and Teeheespresso are named for the Colombian,cappuccino, andespresso coffees respectively.

- The music played when the drink menu appears is a rearrangement ofMario's Pad's music fromSuper Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. A remix of Professor E. Gadd's theme fromLuigi's Mansion will also play during one of the conversations with him (in the remake, the theme taken fromLuigi's Mansion: Dark Moon is played instead).
- Certain level elements inYoshi's Crafted World are made from Starbeans Iced Coffee boxes, referencing Starbeans Cafe.
