Star Crusters are a stronger variant ofCrusty inSuper Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars andits remake. Their name is a pun on "star cluster." They appear inBowser's Keep the second time it is visited, alongside much weaker creatures. Like Crusties, Star Crusters have extremely high physical attack and defense but low magic stats. In battle, a Star Cruster uses its normal attack on its own turns; if hit with a normal attack, however, the Star Cruster immediately counters with a projectile that puts the attacker tosleep.

In the original game, Star Crusters deny being crabs in theirthought, which appears to be a misunderstood reference to the 1987Famicom gameSanma no Meitantei, joking about the game's use of a crab for its cursor.^[1] TheMonster List entry for Star Cruster mentions that the "Star" in its name is not related toStar Road orStar Pieces. In combination with this, the Japanese version refers to it as「星（スター）のカーニィ」("Crusty of the Stars"), suggesting that it might have been named in reference toKirby (who is also called「星のカービィ」, "Kirby of the Stars" or "Star Kirby", in Japanese).
