Squitter is anAnimal Friend first appearing inDonkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. He is a large orange-and-black haired spider who wears four pairs of orange-white shoes. While most real-world spiders produce silk from their backsides, Squitter is able to shoot it from his mouth. However, members of the spider familyScytodidae are actually able to spit harmful venom-infused silk from their chelicerae, and Squitter even resembles these spiders, as both have an orange coloration with dark spots, though the similarity is coincidental.[2] Squitter lacks some other features that the average spider has, including multiple eyes and chelicerae.
Creation[edit]
According toSteve Mayles, character designer forDonkey Kong Country 2, Squitter's many sneakers were so highly polished in his promotional render that it resulted in a "massive" image file size.[3]Donkey Kong Country 2 designerGregg Mayles recalled that Steve once expressed little faith in the idea of a rideable spider,[4] to which Steve jokingly responded that "any sensible person would be initially sceptical of riding a giant spider".[5]

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest[edit]
Squitter is an ally inDonkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. From his mouth, Squitter can shoot out an unlimited number of web projectiles, which can to defeat most enemies, includingZingers. Squitter can create temporary web platforms to reach higher areas, such as aBonus Area, or to cross a large gap. Squitter does not jump as high asDiddy Kong andDixie Kong. Squitter cannot defeat any enemy by jumping on it, which even damages him in the process.
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble![edit]
Squitter is an ally inDonkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!. Squitter now has the ability to jump on enemies to defeat them, not counting foes that are normally unaffected by jump attacks, such asBuzzes. This ability was not retained for theGame Boy Advance version.
Donkey Kong Land series[edit]
Squitter is an ally in the last two games of theDonkey Kong Land series:Donkey Kong Land 2 andDonkey Kong Land III, based on his appearances inDonkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest andDonkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! respectively. In both games, Squitter's webs have shorter range and disappear shortly after being shot. Web platforms can be created by pressing

. InDonkey Kong Land III only, Squitter can defeat enemies by jumping on them. He can also fall in water in this game and will take damage from it.
Donkey Konga 2[edit]
Squitter makes a cameo appearance inDonkey Konga 2 as one of the characters whose artwork appears inFreestyle Zone while the player plays theDK Bongos.
Super Smash Bros. series[edit]
In theSuper Smash Bros. series, there are a few items of Squitter.Super Smash Bros. Brawl andSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS each have atrophy of Squitter, unlockable at random. InSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, there is an Advanced supportspirit of Squitter that negates the jump and speed reduction effect of sticky floors.

InDonkey Kong Bananza, the extra-rarefossil in theForest Layer is a fossil of Squitter.
