Asquare cloud,[1] also known as aCloud Block,[2] is an object inNew Super Mario Bros. Wii. It is a whiteblock with a smiling face on its front, making it resemble aLakitu's Cloud. Square clouds appear exclusively inWorld 4-5. When hit, a square cloud turns into aLakitu that throwscoins. However, thelevel also featuresSpiny Egg-throwing Lakitus that players can easily mistake for the coin-throwing Lakitus, as the two types are not visually differentiated. The only difference that Lakitus from square clouds have from other types is that they stay onscreen only temporarily and do not respawn.
The way the Lakitu throws coins is reminiscent toSuper Mario World when aYoshi Cloud appears and dropsBonus Coins afterYoshi has eaten two PinkBerries. The block looks similar to theYoshi's Island depiction of theMessage Block, having the compressed facial features of aBouncy Cloud.
