Spiny Control is the second mission of theYoshi Star Galaxy inSuper Mario Galaxy 2. The mission's objective is to defeatSpinies andKing Lakitu.

Layout[edit]

The player starts on theStarting Planet like with thelast mission, though there are many Spinies andLakitus in the field. There are also cages that can be broken by eating a Spiny and firing it at one. One of these cages contains aLaunch Star, which will send the player to theSpiny Shooting Planet. On this planet, the player needs to fire a Spiny at a cagedLuma to rescue it and have it transform into a Launch Star for the player. The Launch Star will send the player through another Launch Star they can use to reach an optionalgroup of planetoids with manyCoins andfruits. The Launch Stars on both planets will both lead to theMarble Block Planet, where the player has to pull out a few wooden platforms and use a Spiny to break open a cage that contains the Launch Star, which will send the player to theplanet where King Lakitu is fought.

When the player enters the main arena, King Lakitu will come out of the storm clouds surrounding the planet and will begin attacking the player by throwing Spinies at them. The player has to use Yoshi to eat a Spiny and then spit it back out at King Lakitu, who is constantly moving around the arena. After hitting him, King Lakitu will hover over the arena and shoot out lightning below him, which will damageMario if it connects. Additionally, King Lakitu is invincible when he is shooting lightning and the lightning will destroy any Spinies it comes into contact with. Afterward, King Lakitu will send out two Spinies at a time and resume moving around the arena. Hitting him again will cause him to get angry and throw four Spinies onto the field, then shoot down lightning again as he moves over the arena. Firing the third Spiny at King Lakitu will defeat him and reward the player with thePower Star.
