Spinning Platform

Spinning Platforms,[1] also referred to astrapdoors[2][3] (ortrap doors),[4] are simple mechanisms resembling floor tiles that are present inDonkey Kong Country games, starting withDonkey Kong Country Returns. They are noticeable by the empty gap underneath them. Ifpounded, Spinning Platforms start rotating around their axes for a short time, allowing theKongs to fall under them. They usually lead to hidden underground chambers orbonus rooms, where the characters can find secrets. Spinning Platforms are semisolid, meaning they can be walked on as on solid ground but can be crossed from beneath. While spinning, a Spinning Platform can defeat any enemy that comes into contact with it.
InDonkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze andits port, Spinning Platforms sometimes appear in conjunction with other gameplay elements. InScorch 'n' Torch, one Spinning Platform that covers the entrance into a bonus room hasfire on top of it, which must be put out with aWater Sack before the platform can be spun. InPanicky Paddles, these platforms form a central gameplay mechanic, where they often appear in midair, and are either still or moving back and forth along a set path. The Kongs may need to spin some of them to fall into bodies ofswimmable juice. Some of the Spinning Platforms in this stage spin on their own at regular intervals, or are caused to spin by certain objects, causing the Kongs to fall through as they stand on one.
