Spin Blocks[1][2][3] (also lowercased)[4] areplatforms that are found only inNew Super Mario Bros. When Spin Blocks are stepped on, the player starts spinning rapidly. If theyjump in this state, they will launch high into the air and slowly glide back down while spinning. The player can press while in the air to perform theDrill Spin and drop more quickly and destroy multiplebricks in a row. Spin Blocks in theMario vs. Luigi mode appear only in the icelevel, where aBig Star will sometimes spawn. There are alwayscoins hovering above the Spin Block.
Spin Blocks resemble theCountdown Platform from theYoshi games in its shape and design, though they have completely different functions. Spin Blocks were likely replaced by thePropeller Mushroom inNew Super Mario Bros. Wii; the Propeller Mushroom functions very similarly, allowing the player to perform both the spinning upward launch and the Drill Spin.
