Spiked rollers are spiky cylindrical obstacles encountered in theSuper Mario franchise. Typically, they roll forwards, andMario (or another player character) has tojump over them to avoid taking damage. As ofSuper Mario 3D World, spiked rollers are chiefly thrown bySpikes, who, prior to their first 3D platformer outing, had thrown onlySpike Balls up until this point.

Super Mario series[edit]
Super Mario 3D Land[edit]
Spiked rollers mark their debut inSuper Mario 3D Land. They roll back and forth along the ground, either automatically or according to gravity.Swinging spikes, which are spiked rollers swung by chains, also appear, being capable of vertical movement. If Mario orLuigi makes contact with a spiked roller in hisStatue form, it breaks and releases severalcoins.
Super Mario 3D World /Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury[edit]
Spiked rollers reappear inSuper Mario 3D World andSuper Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. InSpike's Lost City, some spiked rollers roll perpetually on pendulum platforms. InSpooky Seasick Wreck andGigantic Seasick Wreck, spiked rollers move gently back and forth with the swaying of the large boats. InRed-Hot Run, some spiked rollers move back and forth on their own, while the others rotate in the air as groups of four, around a fixed axis. InBoiling Blue Bully Belt andBroken Blue Bully Belt, groups of two or four spiked rollers rotate in the air around a fixed axis, either horizontally or vertically, similar toSpike Bars. InFootlight Lane, many individual spiked rollers roll around invisible circular platforms, in a portion of thelevel after theCheckpoint Flag. The last group of spiked rollers must be navigated to reach aGreen Star Ring and collect the secondGreen Star of the level. InThe Bowser Express andChampion's Road, several spiked rollers swing back and forth on chains.
Spikes attack by producing spiked rollers and throwing them forward, which roll down the path in front of them. All spiked roller varieties can be destroyed by characters if they assume an invincible state, which includes theLucky Cat form,Invincible form,White Tanooki form, orWhite Cat form.
Most long spiked rollers have aPixel Luigi on the end, including ones thrown by Spikes.
In theBowser's Fury campaign ofSuper Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury,Cat Spikes throw spiked rollers identically to normal Spikes during the mission "So Close Yet So Far" ofTrickity Tower. After this mission is completed, if Mario leaves the area and returns, the Cat Spikes will permanently disappear from the area.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker[edit]
Spiked rollers appear inCaptain Toad: Treasure Tracker andits Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS ports, where they are once again thrown by Spikes, although only in the levelWindup Stairs.
Mario Party series[edit]
Mario Party: Star Rush[edit]
InMario Party: Star Rush, Spikes produce spiked rollers inRoller Revenge.
Super Mario Party Jamboree[edit]
InSuper Mario Party Jamboree, spiked rollers return inSpike's Gambit, where three Spikes throw them down a large sandy incline. A large variety of the spiked roller can be seen on Level 2 and Level 3 of the minigame, where all three Spikes throw it together. Occasionally,Bowser Jr. can summon four spiked rollers inJr.'s Jauntlet.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle[edit]
InMario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, a spiked roller can be found at Underwater Village, a location inSpooky Trails. It is stuck between some plants grown away from the main path.Beep-0 notes that whoever owned the spiked roller left the area quickly, claiming this to be "an ominous sign." The weaponsSpike Strike andBig Spike are designed after spiked rollers, though their description refers to them asSkewers.
Mario Tennis Aces[edit]
InMario Tennis Aces,Spike produces a spiked roller and uses it to hit the tennis ball in hisSpecial Shot.
Paper Mario: The Origami King[edit]
InPaper Mario: The Origami King, some spiked rollers can be seen in the Spike's quarters alongside someSpike Balls inBowser's Castle.
Mario & Luigi: Brothership[edit]
InMario & Luigi: Brothership, spiked rollers are used for one of the Spikes' attacks. Spikes stand on one side of the Mario Bros. and throw a spiked roller that slowly rolls towards the Mario Bros. and must be jumped over. Spiked rollers thrown byGlohm Spikes roll faster.
