Spike balls[1] are objects inSuper Mario 3D World andits port. They are first encountered inClear Pipe Cruise. These giant green seeds with yellow spikes are found insideClear Pipes, blocking parts of them. If the player hits a spike ball, they not only take damage but are also ejected backwards in the pipe, so its destruction is necessary to pass. SomeGreen Stars are found among spike balls. Spike balls can be destroyed by afireball fromFire Mario, by abaseball, byInvincible Mario, or byWhite Tanooki Mario.
Spike balls reappear inCaptain Toad: Treasure Tracker andits ports, where they retain both their design and functionality fromSuper Mario 3D World. They appear in levels with Clear Pipes such asClear Pipe Puzzleplex and block the way of the player, though the player can destroy them using theSuper Pickax power-up.
Spike balls briefly appear inMario Strikers: Battle League inside Clear Pipe goal-line decorations in theMushroom Hill stadium.
