Spanglers[1] areenemies inSuper Mario Galaxy andSuper Mario Galaxy 2. They are dark gray-striped alien spiders with maroon heads and are closely related to the fuzzy, brown-coloredSpoings, both of which resemble the recurringScuttlebug enemy. Spanglers hang from awnings by a thread of silk attached to a bright pink spinneret on their abdomens.

Super Mario Galaxy[edit]
Spanglers first appear inSuper Mario Galaxy and itsNintendo Switchport. WhenMario (orLuigi) approaches where they roost, they descend to his level and begin swinging around gently to try and hit him.jumping on them defeats them immediately, whilespinning them or hitting them with aStar Bit causes them to swing away while twirling out-of-control, stunning them briefly and rendering them harmless for that period. If they are spun at in this state, they are defeated. They release acoin if stomped, or threeStar Bits if spun.
Spanglers appear in the following list of galaxies and missions. If no mission is stated, Spanglers appear during all missions:
- Ghostly Galaxy ("Luigi and the Haunted Mansion", "Beware of Bouldergeist")
- Bowser Jr.'s Airship Armada
- Sea Slide Galaxy ("The Silver Stars of Sea Slide", "Hurry, He's Hungry")
Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]
Spanglers return inSuper Mario Galaxy 2 and its Nintendo Switchport, where they act the same as before. Unlike Spoings,Yoshi cannot eat them, and hitting them with his tongue causes the same effect as hitting them with a Star Bit. They appear in the first missions ofYoshi Star Galaxy andTall Trunk Galaxy.

Etymology[edit]
"Spangler" is a portmanteau between "spider" and "angler," in reference to the silk they swing from. It is similar in root to the Japanese name for the enemy.
