Sora Ltd. is a Japanese video game development company that was founded byMasahiro Sakurai, a former employee ofHAL Laboratory, in September 2005. Sora was created as an independent company, through which other companies would hire Sakurai to develop games. It is one of the smallest companies of all time, having only two employees, including Sakurai himself.
Satoru Iwata hired Sora to be part of a special team put together specifically to developSuper Smash Bros. Brawl, with Sakurai as the team's head. Sora was later hired again to developSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS,Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, andSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, withBandai Namco Games assisting in the development of all three games.
Project Sora[edit]
On January 22, 2009, Sakurai created Project Sora, a division of Sora Ltd. created to develop a new game forNintendo. The game, revealed at E3 2010, isKid Icarus: Uprising for theNintendo 3DS, which launched on March 2012. On June 30, 2012, Project Sora disbanded, and one day later, the company's website was made no longer accessible.
