Gameplay[edit]

In this event, the player participates in head to head matches with one other opponent, with the winner decided using a tournament setup. However, in single player matches, the event will always start on the final match. To start the event, the player must swing the down the GamePad or Wii Remote when "Go!" appears onscreen, and can perform a starting dash by swinging down with perfect timing, though will have a delayed start if they swing down too early. The player can also charge up power by holding down theZL Button,ZR Button, orB Button with the right timing and releasing them when they start. Once the event has started, the player can turn their character by tilting the GamePad or Wii Remote left or right, and can crouch to go faster by tilting it forward. The player can also drift to turn faster by holdingZL Button,ZR Button, orB Button while turning, and will receive a short speed boost after they have finished drifting if they did it for long enough. The player needs to aim to pass around the correct side of each of the fourteen flags on their side of the course, and will incur a three-second penalty for each flag that they miss. The player can also gain a small speed boost by hitting the inside of the flag. The character that completes the course in the fastest time including penalties wins the event.
