Smeeches[1] are flyingenemies inSuper Mario Galaxy 2 and itsNintendo Switchport, appearing only inmissions featuringYoshi. They are pink spherical creatures with a pair of beady eyes and plump lips, and they are based on thePoink enemy fromSuper Mario Sunshine. Smeeches flee fromMario andLuigi if they encounter them. However, if either player character is riding Yoshi, they float towards him, eventually kissing Yoshi and attaching to his mouth; they will also automatically attach if Yoshi tries to eat one.
Having a Smeech attached to him prevents Yoshi from using his tongue or eatingfruits. A Smeech remains attached to Yoshi's mouth for as long as it can: they will stay attached if the player uses aLaunch Star; if the player collects aPower Star while riding Yoshi with a Smeech on his mouth, it appears in the ensuing star collection cutscene; it will also remain attached if first-person mode is entered, letting the player see inside its model.
The Smeech can be defeated with aspin or ajump from the unmounted Mario or Luigi; Yoshi can also perform aHead Shake to remove the Smeech, causing it to vanish and dropStar Bits. If Mario or Luigi dismounts or is knocked off Yoshi, the Smeech detaches from Yoshi's mouth and begins to hover away.
Smeeches appear in the following list of galaxies and missions:
- Yoshi Star Galaxy ("Saddle Up with Yoshi")
- Hightail Falls Galaxy ("Hightail Falls Speed Run")
- Haunty Halls Galaxy ("A Glimmer of Bulb Berry")
- Starshine Beach Galaxy ("Purple Coin Beach Dash")
- Sweet Mystery Galaxy ("Bulb Berry's Mysterious Glow")
Smeeches behave similarly to theLeaps from theKirby series, which they also closely resemble, andBucculus fromSuper Smash Bros. Brawl.

Naming[edit]
"Smeech" is a portmanteau of "smooch" and "leech", alluding to a leech's behavior of sticking to the skin with their mouth.
