Small Rammerheads[1] are a type ofRammerhead inSuper Mario 3D World andBowser's Fury. While their bodies are the same size as the normal Rammerheads, they have narrower heads and pink dorsa. Whileunderwater, Small Rammerheads swim between corridors that are not large enough for their bigger counterparts, and most are trailed bybubbles. In shallow bodies of water, they breach from the surface. Small Rammerheads appear luminescent in dark areas and only their heads are damaging, just like the bigger sharks.
In the originalSuper Mario 3D World, they appear only inRammerhead Reef. In the underwater portion of the course, most of the bubbles that trail the sharks containcoins, but one of them holds the course's secondGreen Star. Small gaps appear in the terrain that allow the player character to avoid Small Rammerheads as they swim by. Three breaching Small Rammerheads later appear near theGoal Pole, where they breach over terrain in tall arcs, belly side up. The ones on screen are immediately defeated upon touching the Goal Pole, each one awarding the player1000 points.
InBowser's Fury,Cat Rammerheads[1] appear inLake Lapcat on the archipelagic path betweenClawswipe Colosseum andTrickity Tower. Unlike the ones from theSprixie Kingdom, these Rammerheads have cat ears, a cat tail, and are furred. Their dorsa is a drap purple, just like the larger Rammerheads. Cat Rammerheads leap in low arcs over the path, making them difficult to avoid. Their backs are directed towards the sky, unlike the Small Rammerheads in Rammerhead Reef. Their eyes turn to followMario's position when he is within their immediate vicinity.
They identity of this shark enemy as a specific variant of normal Rammerheads has been opaque. UnlikeGoombas, there are no Rammerhead variants recognized in thePrima Games guidebook forSuper Mario 3D World.[2] The name "Small Rammerhead" is applied to the narrow-headed Rammerheads in theSuper Mario Bros. Encyclopedia and theMario Portal Game Archive forSuper Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury,[3][1] whereas it is applied to the little one fromCaptain Toad Makes a Splash on the Mario Portal Game Archive for the original game. The pink ones are not listed at all.[4] Because the pink narrow-headed ones are the only Rammerheads to have a unique filename designation from the normal ones, these are presumed to be the "true" Small Rammerheads.Captain Toad's Adventures notably include littleBiddybuds,Peepas, and other enemies that are not recognized as unique variants.
