Sluggers, also referred to as aBaseball Boy Slugger,[1] are enemies that first appear inSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island that often appear alongsideGreen Gloves as part of the Baseball Boys. They are yellowBandits that use their baseball bats to returneggs thatYoshi throws at them, which will push Yoshi backwards upon contact, but can also be jumped on. This mechanic is occasionally used as a method of obtaining certainSmiley Flowers. As well as returning any eggs thrown at them, Sluggers will also returnChomp Rocks and seeds spat from aWatermelon. Sluggers cannot be grabbed by Yoshi's tongue, but can be defeated byGround Pounding or jumping on them thrice. Sluggers later appear in the remake of the original game,Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, and also inYoshi's Island DS, in which they act identically to the first game.

InSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, a Slugger and a Green Glove appear together in the samespirit.

  • Player's Guide:ThisKen Griffey Jr. wannabe loves it when you throw an egg right across the plate.[3]
  • Shogakukan guide (Game Boy Advance version): タマゴを投げると打ち返す。このタマゴに当てってもダメージは受けないが、強くはじき飛ばされてしまう。3回ふむか、ヒップドロップで倒そう。[4] (If you throw an egg at it, it will hit it back. If the egg hits you, it will not damage you, but it will bounce off you strongly. Step on it three times or use a Hip Drop to take it down.)
