Slipsand Galaxy is agalaxy in the gameSuper Mario Galaxy 2 and itsNintendo Switchport, located inWorld 5. The level is desert-themed and features desert objects such as cacti. Sand Rivers andfireballs are the main obstacles in the level. A pyramid can be seen in the background, but serves no special purpose.Dry Bones,Magikoopas andPokey Heads are common enemies in this galaxy. TheFire Flower reappears in this galaxy and is used in the boss battle againstSquizzard. At one point, Mario needs to avoid someRhomps while sliding down sand.
Planets[edit]
Starting Planet[edit]
This is a long, tubular planet with a fast sand current. During theSquizzard's Sandy Sinkhole mission, the current is going with the player. Manyfireballs circle the planet and manyprickly plants serve as an impediment during the mission. TheLaunch Star takes the player to theSandy Waterfall Planet. During theSailing the Sandy Seas mission, the current is going against Mario. Luckily, there are platforms to allow the player to reach theWarp Pipe on the other side. If the player goes all the way to the very end in this mission, where the Launch Star was in the last mission, they find three1-Up Mushrooms. The player must rapidly jump and spin to do this.[1] TheLaunch Star takes Mario to theSandy Sea Planet during the mission. There is also an underground section withFire Bars and gravity.
Sandy Fall Planet[edit]
This is a fairly small square planet with a sand current that is going against the player. At the first part, there are a few shifting blocks that push the player off the planet. ManyPokey Heads appear on this planet. At the second area, it is an S-shaped stream with threeCluckbooms flying over it. TheComet Medal can be found in this area. There is aFire Flower, even more Pokey Heads, and more shifting blocks in the next area. There is aCheckpoint Flag and aLaunch Star that takes the player to the Sand Slide Planet at the top. There is also aFire Flower that can be used to light two urns on the Sandy Waterfall Planet, but it's optional because lighting the urns just gives out a 1-Up Mushroom. There is aBlack hole in the middle of the planet.
Sand Slide Planet[edit]
The planet is basically one long sand stream coming out of the pyramid. The player must slide down the stream to the end while avoiding theRhomps that appear halfway. It gets narrower towards the end of the stream. At the bottom of the slide is a small area withLumalee, aCheckpoint Flag, and theLaunch Star that takes the player to theSinkhole Planet. TheCosmic Spirit appears next to the Checkpoint Flag if the player loses several times againstSquizzard.
Squizzard's Sandy Sinkhole[edit]
The planet is a bowl-shaped planet filled with sand. The sand moves at a fast current towards the middle whereSquizzard lies. The arena is fenced up and there are some rocks here that can serve as platforms. TwoFire Flowers appear here. When Squizzard is defeated, the sand stops flowing.
Zero Gravity Room Planet[edit]
This planet appears during the second mission, manifesting as a room of stone bricks where the gravity changes to accommodate when Mario walks on a curved surface. It plays the tune used in the bonus rooms fromSuper Mario Galaxy, which can also be heard in the bonus rooms fromRightside Down Galaxy,Upside Dizzy Galaxy, andSlimy Spring Galaxy.
Sandy Sea Planet[edit]
This planet is only traveled to during theSailing the Sandy Seas mission. It is a vast, wide open area filled withdeadly quicksand. The player needs to ride theSand Bird on this planet to avoid falling into the quicksand. Many cacti are found here, which destroy parts of the ship, although the ship quickly regenerates any lost parts.Magikoopas and a singleHoming Chomp are found on this planet as well. ThePower Star is found at the end of the planet.
