Skis are a device in the gamesSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island,Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, andYoshi's Island DS. By equipping skis, Yoshi becomesSki Yoshi.
They are found mainly in snowy or icy levels, and usually at the end of a level; skis more or less share every identical characteristic in bothYoshi's Island and its sequel. Unlike most other vehicles in these games,Yoshi gets skis by entering a hut and emerging on them. Although players cannot change the direction Yoshi is skiing in, pressing makes him perform a jump. Failing to jump over ramps causes Yoshi to roll up into a snowball and roll uncontrollably for a couple of seconds. Skiing sections of a level can last as much as three sections or 'screens' of a level.
They first appear in Level 5-3,Danger - Icy Conditions Ahead, inSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, as well as Level 5-ExtraKamek's Revenge. InYoshi's Island DS, they appear in Level 4-7Teeth-Chattering Chill Zone, and 3-SecretA Light in the Dark.
Skis are also a pair of items found inDonkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!.Funky Kong needs both of them in order to build theTurbo Ski. BothSquirt ofCotton Top Cove andKAOS ofMekanos hold a ski in their possession. When each boss is defeated, they will drop their ski. OnceDixie andKiddy Kong collect both skis, they should take them to Funky Kong, for they will be unable to travel any further in theHover Craft. Once Funky gets ahold of the skis, he will construct the Turbo Ski, allowing theKongs to travel up waterfalls, where they can reach new areas such asK3 andPacifica (in theGame Boy Advanceremake).
