Skeleton Mario is an original form that appears inSuper Mario-kun, mostly in theSuper Mario World arc.
The first occasion in which this form is shown is the last chapter ofvolume 1, as one of the hypothetical future transformations of theSuper Mario franchise. Mario can transform into a skeleton for three minutes after collecting aHone, but it has no known advantages or powers.
Involume 2, aFishbone attacks the heroes by shooting a "Bone Ray", turningLuigi andYoshi into skeletons. Before Mario can be hit, however, aSuper Star grants himinvincibility, and he defeats the enemy. Meanwhile, Luigi and Yoshi ask how they will turn back to normal.
Involumes 3 and6, to withstand the heat, Yoshi removes his skin like a shirt, revealing his skeleton (without the need of any power-ups or attacks), unsettling the Mario Bros.
In volume 6, while fightingBattra Hanachan, she flaps her wings so hard, she blows everything away except the giantStar Yoshi, even though his skin was ripped out from the strong wind.
Involumes 13, a Yoshi skeleton reappears in the Koopa museum, as proof of theYoshis' extinction.
Notes[edit]
- A skeletal Mario would later appear in the games inSuper Mario Galaxy as a death animation from electric attacks and inSuper Mario Odyssey as aCrazy Cap outfit.
- InSuper Mario Galaxy 2, a skeleton transformation, called「ホネマリオ」(Hone Mario, "Bone Mario"), was planned but ultimatelyscrapped.[1]
