Shy Guy Bazaar is the fourth and last race course of theMushroom Cup inMario Kart 7. As its name suggests, the course takes place in a bazaar and around aShy Guy town with an Arabian theme during nighttime. The houses have domes shaped likeMushrooms and the audience cover parts of the course. This course utilizes aesthetics associated withSubcon, which Shy Guys are associated with. Hitting a non-movingjar reveals Mushrooms,Bananas,Green Shells, and, rarely,Stars. Despite being in the Mushroom Cup, this course is one of the longest new courses inMario Kart 7. Shy Guy Bazaar is one of the few courses inMario Kart 7 to be created byRetro Studios.[1]
Shy Guy Bazaar returns inMario Kart Tour, debuting in theNew York Tour alongside the rest ofMario Kart 7's Mushroom Cup, and inMario Kart World as the second course of theFlower Cup. InWorld, a rerouted version of Shy Guy Bazaar featuring a palace withDaisy's emblem is exclusive to certainroutes, though unlikeN64 Kalimari Desert 2 fromMario Kart Tour, the rerouted Shy Guy Bazaar is not given a different name.
Mario Kart 7[edit]
The course has a brick road with some sand blown onto it, with a segment in a small market with some jars and stalls strewn about. Moving jars containing small, green snakes called snake jars block the way in the middle portion of the track. The final segment consists of a series of boost ramps leading to aGlide Ramp over an abyss.Coins can be collected while in the air andFlying Shy Guys are mounted onmagic carpets as obstacles.
The carpets located in the bazaar area contain sprites ofAngry Suns,Phantos,Pansers, andCobrats on them. These sprites (besides the Angry Sun), combined with the course's Arabian theming, are in reference toYume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic, the debut game of both these enemies and Shy Guys.
Course layout[edit]
All of the racers start the course in a sandy area. Just after the starting line, the road bends in a slight curve to the right that leads to a wooden bridge hanging over a dark gap and the first set ofItem Boxes. Racers then cross the entrance to the town. The road bends again slightly to the right and ends in the bazaar. The road widens significantly, though several stands located in the middle of the road divide it in several parts. In this area, racers can find the first set of Coins. Far to the right hand of the road before the bazaar, there is a boost ramp that sends players to a wooden platform over the track. Over there, the player can find a few coins, jumping ramps andDash Panels as the platform curves to the right. The bazaar area ends in a road divided by a median, where players can take the left or the right side. The right side is more convenient as it contains coins and a Dash Panel, while the other side has nothing but jars. In the same way, the wooden platform finishes at the end of the bazaar area with a ramp right over the divided path. The road then makes a left turn to a stretch with the second set of Item Boxes, and then a tight turn to the right. Two jars and one snake jar appear in this section, while the road turns again to the right. The road straightens out, with a second set ofCoins to pick up, and after that, there is a boost ramp that leads to the town's rooftops. Racers must make several successive jumps across buildings. The last set of Item Boxes can be found in this area. The road ends with aGlide Ramp over an abyss towards a group of outlying buildings. More coins floating in the air can be collected when gliding, but racers must avoid making contact with theflying Shy Guys to avoid falling into the pit. Upon landing, the road turns to the right. Here, the road slopes down slightly, while there are steps off to the sides that allow for tricks to be performed. A final set of coins can be found on these steps. From here, racers approach thefinish line and complete the lap.
Shortcuts[edit]
- Players can use aMushroom boost to bypass the first bent curve.
- At the last turn, the player can cut the sand at the right of the large jar with aMushroom, leading to the steps to the right of the main slope.
- A shortcut can be performed at the end of the U-turn after the bazaar section. If the player uses a Mushroom at a specific angle towards the left wall at the curve, it is possible to clip through the wall and fall out of bounds into the black void underneath the course. Lakitu will then place the racer before the ramp section leading to the Glide Ramp. This saves around two seconds if done quickly. If the player clips through the wall at a wrong angle, they may activate a different out-of-bounds plane and Lakitu will put them back at the end of the bazaar.[2]
Mario Kart Tour[edit]
Shy Guy Bazaar makes its classic course debut inMario Kart Tour, starting with theNew York Tour. It retains most of its appearance fromMario Kart 7, with the only major change being that the player can now perform aJump Boost by hitting some rocks that appear at the end of the gliding section. The starting line has also been updated, with the fabric banner being replaced with a stone banner and the supporting pillars now featuring lanterns.
The course also appears asShy Guy Bazaar R (reversed),Shy Guy Bazaar T (with ramps), andShy Guy Bazaar R/T (reversed with ramps). The former two debuted alongside the original in the New York Tour, while the latter first debuted in theIce Tour. In the T variant, the gliding section starts significantly later and is thus shorter. In the R/T variant, the gliding section is removed altogether; there is instead aglide ramp where racers enter the bazaar.

Mario Kart World[edit]
Shy Guy Bazaar makes its home console debut inMario Kart World, appearing as the second course of theFlower Cup. The course is also the first checkpoint of theCloud Rally and the starting point of theHeart Rally. It is one of two tracks originating fromMario Kart 7 to appear in the game, the other beingWario Shipyard. In this game, the course can take place during the day, as was originally intended forMario Kart 7. The starting banner is now held up by Shy Guys sitting in howdahs on the backs of two elephants.[5]
A palace withDaisy's flower emblem serves as the central landmark of the course, which includes additional references toSarasaland, including statues resemblingGao[6][7] and tapestry with aTokotoko pattern on it.[8] Ropes have been added to the far sides of the course for drivers toRail Ride on.
IfKamek is used on this course, racers will transform into eitherPokey orPianta.
Daisy's palace variant[edit]
Rather than certain routes leading into a backwards version of Shy Guy Bazaar, the reverse variant has a completely unique layout by utilizing the palace. The palace itself is only used for routes coming fromAirship Fortress in VS Race andWario Stadium, and is not available during races without routes. The palace layout is located northeast of the main track, and the only overlap is in the bottom right corner of the palace layout and top left corner of the normal layout.[9] Drivers enter the palace, then glide out to drive through the bazaar in reverse; the normal gliding section is absent in this variant.
Routes[edit]
Driving from Wario Stadium and Airship Fortress to Shy Guy Bazaar takes drivers throughChain Chomp Desert. Incidentally, although Shy Guy Bazaar can lead to Wario Stadium, the path taken to Wario Stadium is completely different than the path taken from Wario Stadium (which, after reaching Chain Chomp Desert, is identical to the route from Airship Fortress), taking drivers through a cave instead of Chain Chomp Desert. The routes from Shy Guy Bazaar leading toMario Bros. Circuit,Desert Hills, and the aforementioned Airship Fortress all approach those three courses from the back rather than the front or the side. This makes Shy Guy Bazaar the only course to have routes leading to Mario Bros. Circuit and Desert Hills being driven forwards rather than backwards.

Shy Guy Bazaar is the second track of the Flower Cup, which is two tracks later than the fourth track of the Mushroom Cup, and Wario Shipyard is the fourth track of the Star Cup, appearing two tracks later than the second track of the Star Cup.
