Shroob Mother Ship
The Shroob Mother Ship.

TheShroob Mother Ship is a large spacecraft primarily used byPrincess Shroob for combat and transportation inMario & Luigi: Partners in Time. The ship resembles a large, pinkShroob saucer; subsequent to their invasion of theMushroom Kingdom, theShroobs' mother ship usually appears to hamper the bros.' efforts to halt the Shroob invasion. The Shroob Mother Ship is the only full-length area in the game thatcan no longer be accessed once the four heroes leave.

AfterMario,Luigi,Baby Mario, andBaby Luigi defeatBowser andBaby Bowser inThwomp Caverns and have seemingly rescuedPrincess Peach, the Shroob Mother Ship sucks the brothers and "Peach" (a disguised Princess Shroob) into the ship. While searching for Peach inside the mother ship, the Mario Bros. find Princess Shroob, who reveals her disguise and promptly tries to destroy Mario and company. Before she succeeds, however,Kylie Koopa is revealed to be disguised as a Shroob, and she uses a ray gun to save the bros. The heroes then travel to the mother ship's highest floor, and while trying to use akey on that floor, a trapdoor opens beneath them and they fall from the mother ship. The bros. get dropped into the now-wreckedToad Town, while Kylie gets dropped intoYoshi's Island.

The mother ship itself is largely linear and pseudo-2D, with long, straight sections which wrap around the perimeter of the ship and overlook a vast pool of unknown green liquid (possiblyvim fromToads) in which many Shroobs seem to be bathing. Some of the Shroobs in the background also appear to have suction tubes above them with their heads being partially sucked in. TwoGuardian Shroobs patrol the area, and they are the only enemies that can be battled forExperience Points andcoins.

While inShroob Castle, the bros. find a large Shroob saucer resembling a smaller version of the Shroob Mother Ship, which they then use to shoot down many normal-sized Shroob saucers. Later, when the bros. finally find the real Peach at the top of the castle, Princess Shroob takes the opportunity to use the mother ship to open fire on her own castle in an attempt to finish off the bros., forcing them to engage the mother ship in battle by using another large saucer, which functions identically to the saucer that the Mario Bros. had used earlier. After its defeat, the Shroob Mother Ship crashes into Shroob Castle, taking out a barrier which had imprisoned Peach before the mother ship's destruction.
