Shelly is a particular egg that containsBirdo inSuper Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. It has pink spots on it, similarly to a pink-spottedYoshi egg. It is the firstBirdo egg in the series to be depicted this way.

Mario and hisallies discover Shelly inNimbus Castle, under the care of aBeezo while the castle has been taken over byValentina. Birdo speaks to Mario from inside the egg, asking him to play with her. Accepting her request startsher boss fight.

Shelly serves as the first phase of the battle against Birdo. In the original version, it has a different appearance in battle, featuring smaller red splotches in place of its pink spots. Shelly poses no threat whatsoever, and it must simply be attacked to deplete itsHP, causing it to gradually crack. After enough hits, Birdo hatches, beginning the real fight.

Despite Shelly being destroyed over the course of the boss fight, Birdo is inside Shelly once again after the battle. In the remake, Birdo seals herself back into Shelly during her defeat animation.
