- —Sign,Super Mario Sunshine
TheSand Cabana, also referred to as theSurf Shack,[1] is a small bar found on the east side ofGelato Beach inSuper Mario Sunshine, directly in front of theShine Tower. The Sand Cabana is looked after by a localPianta, and it features a rack of colorful surfboards in front of it. On top of the building is a sign with wooden letters ina fictional writing system also used elsewhere onIsle Delfino.[2] The sign translates to "Bar Mamma," matching the Japanese name of the level, "Mamma Beach," or "Bar Gelato" in international releases, though the original sign can still be seen in English-language promotional material. Additionally, the first word is placed at the top center instead of in the top left. The Japanese version of the sign appears on the scene art featuring the cabana.
The Sand Cabana has a role only in "Red Coins in the Coral Reef," in whichMario must travel to the inside of it to retrieve whatever type offruit aYoshi happens to be craving; the three fruits laid out on a table inside the hut include apineapple, apapaya, andbananas. Ablue coin is hidden on the ceiling of the hut, amidst four regularcoins, although only during certainepisodes. If Mario uses theSquirt Nozzle to spray the cash register, he will find a1-Up Mushroom. To the right of the hut is anozzle box containing theHover Nozzle, and to the left is thesunglasses vendor, who rewards Mario with sunglasses and a tropical shirt when spoken to. Depending on the episode, a number ofDune Buds may also be scattered at intervals around the Sand Cabana.
