Rouge the Bat is a major character from theSonic the Hedgehog series, appearing since her game debut inSonic Adventure 2. She is an anthropomorphic white bat whose wings enable her to fly. Rouge carries a lot of experience in treasure hunting, mainly focusing on theMaster Emerald andChaos Emeralds. In theSuper Mario franchise, Rouge regularly appears in theMario & Sonic series, usually as a rival or one of the playable athletes.

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]
Rouge makes a few cameo appearances in theSuper Smash Bros. series. InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl, there is asticker of Rouge depicting her appearance profile picture, and inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, there is aspirit of Rouge.
Mario & Sonic series[edit]
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games[edit]
Rouge makes an appearance as a boss in the Festival mode of theFigure Skating event in theWiiversion. In single player mode, Rouge appears after the player trains in Figure Skating and challenges them with a high score to beat. In Co-op Festival mode, Rouge appears right before the halfway point of the festival with the same challenge. It is said by Toad and Cream that her performance is amazing and without a single mistake. Rouge also appears as aMii costume in the shop for 300 star points, increasing the player's Skill points greatly.
In theDSversion, Rouge is first seen in the area past the mechanical gate thatTails is required to fix inFrostown. When approached, Rouge is in deep thought as to the whereabouts ofShadow, and does not seem concerned with the stolen Olympic memorabilia. Later on inCubyrinth, Shadow mentions seeing a flying treasure hunter and accepts to join the team in case any troubles might arise with the hunter (who is really Rouge).
Mario and Sonic make a deal with Rouge to exchange Whitestones with her for Olympic memorabilia; each piece is worth three Whitestones. Shadow, or anyone else who the player chooses, faces off against her whenBowser andDr. Eggman bribe her with a ton of Whitestones to defeat the player in Figure Skating, tricking her. She accepts, unaware that it is a trick, but when defeated, she aids the player and helps freeBlizza. While this is happening, Bowser and Dr. Eggman captureFrosty, but Rouge quickly pursues them. When talked to afterward inFrostown,Cubyrinth, orSparkleton if the player is at that point already, Rouge apologizes for letting her greed get the better of her and mentions how Bowser and Dr. Eggman gave her the slip.
From then on, Rouge continues the Whitestones dealings and continues from town to town searching for memorabilia. She is later seen in the credits of the Adventure Tours after Bowser and Dr. Eggman are defeated again in a picture with the other villains: Bowser, Dr. Eggman,Bowser Jr.,Metal Sonic,Eggman Nega,King Boo, Boo,Dry Bones,Big Bullet Bill,Omega andJet.Dry Bowser is the only villain absent from the picture.
Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games[edit]
In the Wiiversion ofMario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Rouge appears as a non-playable character. She is one of various characters that the players can speak to in the London Party mode and appears as a rival in110m Hurdles. If the player defeats her they can receive a sticker. AMii outfit based on Rouge also appears in this game.
Rouge only appears in the Story Mode of theNintendo 3DSversion, in which she is brainwashed by Dr. Eggman using thePhantasmal Fog, and initially tries to trap the girls andToads in it.Peach challenges her in100m Backstroke, and after being defeated Rouge begins to recover from her brainwashing and leads the group to thefog machine inHyde Park. AfterBlaze destroys the machine and clears the fog, Rouge remembers more about being brainwashed, and then decides to stay with the girls in Hyde Park to keep an eye on things there. Rouge later callsMario,Luigi, Sonic andTails to support them when they face Bowser and Dr. Eggman, and also appears at the opening ceremony. Abadge of Rouge can also be obtained from the badge machine.
Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games[edit]
Rouge appears as a boss in the Legends Showdown mode ofMario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. As all of the playable characters are about to claim the Legend Trophy, she ambushes them along withEggman Nega andDry Bowser. The player must then face all three of them in the Winter Sports Champion Race event.
Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games[edit]
Rouge appears yet again inMario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, this time as a playable "guest" character. In the 3DS version she is exclusive to Golf, while in the Wii U version she is exclusive to Beach Volleyball.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020[edit]
Rouge returns as a guest character inMario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, this time exclusive to the Sport Climbing event. During this event, she wears her outfit from theSonic Riders series.
