Rock Krocs[1][2][3] (also spelledRockKrocs)[4][5] are enemies inDonkey Kong Country. They have rocky brown skin and glowing red eyes. The official German guide for the game implies that the Rock Krocs are zombies.[6]

History[edit]

Donkey Kong Country[edit]

Rock Krocs appear inDonkey Kong Country. They are encountered inStop & Go Station only, contrary to what is said in thePlayer's Guide.[5] Rock Krocs are the main obstacle and feature of said stage, andStop & Go Barrels can manipulate their movements. The Rock Krocs move continuously by default because the barrels are all set to "GO," but if the barrels are set to "STOP," every Rock Kroc curls up like a boulder and stops moving; this is required to pass through the level. However, after a few seconds, every Stop & Go Barrel reverts back to "GO", followed by the Rock Krocs getting up to continue moving. It is possible toroll through a Rock Kroc without taking damage. In the Japanese version and thesecond remake, if a Rock Kroc is curled up, either abarrel or Donkey Kong'sHand Slap can defeat it. When defeated, Rock Kroc releases either abanana, Banana Bunch, or anExtra Life Balloon.

Aphotograph of Rock Kroc can be obtained in the second remake in Stop & Go Station, before theletter O.

Donkey Kong Country novel[edit]

An individual Rock Kroc appears as one ofKing K. Rool's lieutenants at the end of theDonkey Kong Country novel. Shortly after theKongs board theGangplank Galleon,Diddy stomps Rock Kroc's head, causing him to collapse (unlike inDonkey Kong Country).

Donkey Kong Country: Rumble in the Jungle[edit]

A Rock Kroc leads a "squadron" ofKremlings within their factory inBig Ape City in the novelDonkey Kong Country: Rumble in the Jungle. It is encountered byDonkey Kong,Diddy Kong,Cranky Kong, andFunky Kong after they try to escape the factory in Funky'sbarrel plane. Rock Kroc and the Kremlings attempt to attack the plane, thoughDonkey Kong uses aTNT Barrel to rip a large hole in the factory's wall, and the characters escape before Rock Kroc can reach them.

DK attempts to defeat him with aRoll Attack, but he bounces back, then he grabs aTNT Barrel, but the Kremling takes advantage of his appearance to hide between the rocks of the area and, not sure who to hit, DK's barrel explodes in his hands. Mario manages to lure him out with a free coupon and crushes him with ahammer, but the rock debris come together to create a giant rocky Rock Kroc, but it trips on banana peel left by Yoshi and comes apart. DK and Mario then crush the rocks into sand with hammers, defeating it.

  • Player's Guide:This possessed creature only appears in a couple of stages. That's plenty! When the lights in the cave glow green, the RockKrocs go crazy. They run back and forth with their arms outstretched, looking for something to grab. The only way to shut them down is to make the lights glow red. Doing so entails touching the Stop & Go Barrels as you move through the stage.[5]
  • Player's Guide (Game Boy Advance version):Rock Krocs are rare subterranean Krocs that have glowing red eyes and rocklike skin. They appear in only a few corners of Kong Island. Rock Krocs run around in a crazed rampage when the cave is lit green. Activate Stop & Go Barrels in levels that the stony beasts populate to change the level's lighting to red—the Rock Krocs will become temporarily immobilized.[11]
