- “Don't fall… down?”
- —Mailtoad,Super Mario Galaxy 2
Rightside Down Galaxy is a galaxy that appears inSuper Mario Galaxy 2 and itsNintendo Switchport. Its name is a pun on "rightside up" and "upside down." It featuresgravity changes, represented by arrows in the background, much like the laterUpside Dizzy Galaxy. Part of the galaxy may be played upside down, frontways (which is visually the same as a top-down view), and other directions. Enemies that appear in this galaxy includeGoombas,Paragoombas, aSpiny Piranha Plant,Thwomps, andSwaphoppers. The music changes depending on the direction of gravity. TheFire Flower makes its first appearance inSuper Mario Galaxy 2 in this galaxy. This is one of the only two galaxies in World 1 without aPrankster Comet (besides theGreen Comet), the other being theFluffy Bluff Galaxy.
Planets[edit]
Rightside Down Planet (Starting Planet)[edit]
The outside of this planet features four structures shaped like wooden toys and a warp pipe leading inside the planet, which the player lands on as soon as they enter the galaxy. After entering the pipe, the player is warped to an area made up of wooden blocks andgravity fields that change depending on the player's actions or the place where they are standing. TheToad Brigade is found at the beginning of the planet. AWarp Pipe in the ceiling at the beginning of the level leads to a small area with aFire Flower and crates. This planet is infested withSwaphoppers andGoombas. The first part of the planet consists of a linear road with a few levers that need to be hit in order to change gravity. As the level progresses, more dangerous enemies like Thwomps and Chomps appear and there are also platforms that take the player dangerously close toblack holes. SomeBanandelions positioned at various locations inside the planet aid the player in reaching different areas. Halfway through the planet, the player needs to burn the crates with theFire Flower. The gravity changes after the player progresses past this point. At the end of this planet, thePower Star is behind more Thwomps. If the player is hacking, they can fly back to the starting planet, which is not solid.
Crate Incineration Planet[edit]
This is a simple, metallic, half-sphere planet. AGearmo inhabits this planet and asks the player to use the Fire Flower to burn all the crates in twenty seconds for aPower Star inCrate Burning, similar to theBob-omb Blasting minigame in thefirst game. The fireball can go through several crates at once. After burning through all the boxes, Gearmo gives a Power Star to Mario, the Hidden Star of this galaxy.
Starshrooms[edit]
TwoStarshrooms, a yellow and a red one can be seen around the Rightside Down Planet, though they can only be accessed via hacking.[1]

Green Stars[edit]
Green Star 1[edit]
The player redoes theBreaking the Laws of Gravity mission.Green Star 1 is located right after the third checkpoint and right before the green puzzle pieces area. Getting the star requires a well-timed jump and spin from the green block area or a precisely timed wall-jump from in between the two areas.

Green Star 2[edit]
The player will redo theBreaking the Laws of Gravity mission once more. Green Star 2 is found in the secondThwomp area (the one near thePower Star at the end). One must jump on top of the last Thwomp and then jump over to the Toad next to theCrystal ofStar Bits. The star requires a very high jump to get, which the player can perform by executing a Side or Backward Somersault to the wall, Wall-Jump, and spin.

Prima Official Game Guide description[edit]
- "Rightside Down Galaxy introduces flipping gravity fields. One second your feet are on the ground, the next you're pulled to the ceiling. Watch the arrows in the background to see the current direction of the gravity and see if you cannot use the sudden switches to your advantage."

Notes[edit]
- After the green pathway section, one can backflip onto the side of the whole planet and find a 1-Up Mushroom in each of the four corners. All four mushrooms appear to lack eyes.
- When Mario is flying towards the Starting Planet, the Crate Incineration Planet can be seen behind it. However, upon visiting the Crate Incineration Planet, the Starting Planet cannot be seen despite its close proximity.
