Rhythmic Gymnastics Plus is aPlus Event that appears in theNintendo 3DS version ofMario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The objective of the event is to score the most points by performing moves in time with the music. The playable characters in this event areMario,Daisy,Rosalina,Sonic,Amy,Blaze andMii, with Rosalina being unlocked by beating her in the event on the third day of Mario's story in the Road to Rio mode.
Gameplay[edit]
In this event, the player starts by selecting a composition and a difficulty, being able to choose from either theMain Theme fromSuper Mario Bros. orWonder World fromSonic Lost World, and expert or normal difficulty. To start their routine, the player must press. Once the routine has started, the player performs moves by inputting the controls indicated onscreen in time with the music, with the inputs being pressing certain buttons, rotating
and inputting directions on either
or
. The better the timing the player inputs with, the more points they will score for the move, and they will receive a better rating, ranging from "Perfect" to "Great", "Good" and then "Miss" for particularly poor timing or failure to input the command at all. If the player manages to repeatedly perform with "Great" and "Perfect" timings, they will perform a combo, which will award them more points. It also fills up the gauge for Golden Time, which gives everything a gold color and awards the player more points. Each composition features different commands and items, with theSuper Mario composition featuring only

in the easy difficulty and the addition of the other two buttons for expert, as well asBullet Bills, which reveal the button required to input after they fly over their marker, andGreen Shells, which move along the markers and reveal their buttons as they pass back over them. TheSonic composition uses

for expert, and features Blue Spheres which reveal their button command after a short time and Bumpers which cause the commands to come faster. At the end of the event, the player is told how many of each ranking of move they did, their max combo, overall score and placing in the event.

Advice[edit]
- Blue Spheres all change into markers. Check as quickly as possible which buttons they change into.
- Shells leave behind markers. Keep your eye on the markers, and don't be thrown off the their rapid movement.
- You can use the Circle Pad instead of the +Control Pad.
- Combos continue as long as you achieve Perfect or Great Results.
