Reznors (alternatively pluralized asReznor),[1] also calledReznor Rhinos[2] orRhino Dinos,[3] are mini-bosses introduced inSuper Mario World. They are gray fire-breathingdinosaurs that resembletriceratops and were cursed byBowser to work under him.[1]

History[edit]

Super Mario series[edit]

Super Mario World[edit]

Reznor artwork from Super Mario World
A Reznor, as first depicted forSuper Mario World

A group of four Reznors are fought as bosses inVanilla Fortress, theForest Fortress, theChocolate Fortress, and theValley Fortress inSuper Mario World. They are faced in a room with a bridge overlava, standing on four platforms mounted on a suspended, rotating set of wooden planks bearing their name, spittingfireballs in the direction of the player, who can dissipate these projectiles with the swipe of a cape incaped form. To defeat the Reznors, the player must knock them off their platforms by hitting them from underneath. Once two of the Reznors are defeated, the bridge below gradually breaks away starting from the sides, leaving the player to either try and defeat the other two Reznors before the entire bridge collapses, otherwise, the player can jump on one of the vacated platforms to continue the fight from there.

Prototype assets reveal "Bunbun" as a tentative phrase on Reznor's sign, possibly indicating that it wasBoom Boom earlier in development.[4]

New Super Mario Bros. 2[edit]

Reznors
A group of four Reznors as depicted inNew Super Mario Bros. 2

Reznors reappear inNew Super Mario Bros. 2, serving as the game'stower bosses. Their appearance has changed slightly, with their lower jaws and belly having a lighter tone, and their heads redesigned to better resemble those ofTriceratops. The platforms they stand on are now coin-givingLong ? Blocks with a width of three blocks rather than two, and the word "REZNOR" on the boards behind the wheel is gone. Reznors roar when the player character enters the boss room, and the battle starts. Their theme is now a cover of theSuper Mario World boss battle theme. Unlike inSuper Mario World, which only features a group of four on a single four-platform wheel, Reznors can appear either in groups of two or four, and their wheel and bridge setups can also vary. They do not attack as frequently as before, the fireballs they spit move slower, they roar and stomp their blocks when half of them are defeated to force the bridges in their room to collapse, and the bridges do not collapse as quickly. While they can still be knocked off by striking their platforms from below, each Reznor can also be defeated by striking it with sixfireballs. They can also be taken out by onegold fireball (which yields 30 coins), or contact with a player under the effects of theInvincibility Leaf.

Level appearances
  • World 1-Tower: Two Reznors on one wheel with four Long ? Blocks.
  • World 2-Tower: Four Reznors on one wheel with four Long ? Blocks.
  • World 3-Tower: Same as World 2-Tower.
  • World 4-Tower: Four Reznors on two wheels; two Reznors per wheel, each having four Long ? Blocks. One bridge is positioned to the left of one wheel, while another is positioned to the right of the other wheel.
  • World 5-Tower: Four Reznors on two wheels; two Reznors per wheel, with each wheel having four Long ? Blocks. One bridge is positioned between the two wheels.
  • World 6-Tower: Four Reznors on one giant wheel with eight Long ? Blocks.

Mario Golf: World Tour[edit]

Although Reznors themselves do not appear inMario Golf: World Tour, a Reznor costume is available forMiis to wear, and they can also use a ball and set of golf clubs that are based on a Reznor.

Super Mario Adventures[edit]

InSuper Mario Adventures, several Reznors are shown to inhabit the basement of the Koopalings' Tower, attacking anyone who is dumped into the basement. These Reznor were apparently destroyed when, after attackingPrincess Toadstool,Friendly Floyd, Mario, Luigi,Toad, andYoshi, the Reznor ignited abomb held by Princess Toadstool, blowing up the Koopalings' Tower.

Later inSuper Mario Adventures, several Reznors, riding their spinning platforms, can be seen atBowser's wedding to Princess Toadstool.

Super Mario-kun[edit]

Reznors as featured inSuper Mario-Kun

Reznors appear in theSuper Mario World adaption of the Japanese mangaSuper Mario-kun.

In the second 4-koma of thefirst volume, they attempt to spin very quickly in order to make it harder to hit them, but due to the speed, they fall off their platforms from dizziness.

They reappear involume 4, where Mario tossesYoshi to their contraption, making three of them fall. The remaining Reznor attacks Mario directly by charging at him, knocking Mario onto aSwitch Palace. Inside, there are manySpinies and aGray P Switch. Mario uses the switch to turn the enemies intoGray Coins, score multiple lives, and clone himself intoMario x99, who then defeat the Reznor.

Minecraft[edit]

In the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack inMinecraft,Ravagers are replaced by Reznors.

LEGOSuper Mario[edit]

Reznors appear in theLEGOSuper Mario set 71390: Reznor Knockdown.

Profiles and statistics[edit]

Super Mario World[edit]

  • Instruction booklet:There are dinosaurs called Reznor waiting in all four fortresses. No doubt they've been put under a terrible spell by Koopa. They'll do anything for him, so watch out![1]
  • Mario Mania:Dwelling deep within a dark fortress, Reznor feeds on fire and rests on rotating platforms. Avoid the fireballs he spews and bump him from below.[5]
