Retro Studios is an American video game company based in Austin, Texas. It is a subsidiary ofNintendo founded on September 21, 1998. Retro Studios is best known for the development of theMetroid Prime series. At E3 2010, it was revealed that the company was reviving theDonkey Kong Country series by helping Nintendo createDonkey Kong Country Returns. Retro Studios helped developMario Kart 7 for theNintendo 3DS along withNintendo EAD by contributing assets for theDK Jungle track, working on the classic courses, and contributing ideas and concept art for new tracks. WhileDonkey Kong Country Returns 3D was developed byMonster Games, Retro Studios helped with the collaboration for the port. Retro Studios also developedDonkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze andits Nintendo Switch port.
