Purple Punchers, also known asPink Mapu[1] orbashers,[1] are the second species of normalghostsLuigi encounters inLuigi's Mansion andits remake, where they are encountered in theStorage Room,Armory,Anteroom, theLaundry Room,Cellar, theSealed Room, andThe Artist's Studio, and in theKitchen,Nursery,Conservatory,Balcony (3F), theFortune-teller's Room,Nana's Room, and theTelephone Room during theblackout. They are also encountered in theParlor, the Kitchen, theSafari Room, thePipe Room, theRoof, the Anteroom, the Laundry Room, Cellar, the Sealed Room, and The Artist's Studio in the PAL and3DSHidden Mansion, and in the Nursery, Conservatory, Balcony (3F), the Fortune-teller's Room, Nana's Room, and the Telephone Room during the blackout in the PAL and 3DS Hidden Mansion. As the name implies, these ghosts try to damage Luigi by giving a left or right hook to him; 10HP is lost for each successful uppercut punch. Luigi can stun Purple Punchers with hisflashlight, and then suck them in with hisPoltergust 3000. They can also be hurt by any of the threeelements. Though Purple Punchers do not appear in any later installments of theLuigi's Mansion series,Hiders fromLuigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, andOozers fromLuigi's Mansion 3 behave similarly to them.
In anearlier version ofLuigi's Mansion, Purple Punchers had 30 HP each. However, this was changed to 20 HP in the final version, but was kept at 30 HP in the3DSHidden Mansion. This pre-release screenshot can be seen on page 19 of theLuigi's Mansion instruction booklet.[2]
Purple Punchers make a few minor appearances in other games of theSuper Mario franchise. InMario Power Tennis, Purple Punchers appear in theLuigi's Mansion court andTerror Tennis minigame. InMario Sports Mix, Purple Punchers make their debut spectators to the many sporting events, and they can also be assistants to the players in theLuigi's Mansion stage.Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 andMario Hoops 3-on-3 also feature differently colored Purple Punchers. In the former, blue Purple Punchers appear, while in the latter, turquoise ones appear.
InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl andSuper Smash Bros. for Wii U, a Purple Puncher, along with aGold Ghost and aBlue Twirler, appear together on atrophy of Ghosts fromLuigi's Mansion.
