Punch-Out (originally formatted asPunch Out) isJimmy T's Boss Game found in theSports folder inWarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! and returns as his Boss Game in theSports set within theMash League inWarioWare Gold. The microgame's setting and mechanics are based on thePunch-Out!! series, but it uses generic characters instead.

Gameplay[edit]

The setting for this microgame is a one on one boxing match, with a bell ringing when the microgame starts and when the microgame ends. The player controls one of the boxers and must defeat their opponent to win. While the player can punch with, most of the opponent's states have them block the punch. The opponent can punch the player, which is telegraphed by them first glowing, and then going into the wind-up animation for a punch. If the player gets hit by a punch from the opponent, they lose one of their threeHeart Points. If the player has no Heart Points, they are defeated and they lose the microgame. The player can dodge with, into the direction inputted, which briefly prevents them from throwing a punch but also prevents the opponent's punches from hitting them. Dodging is only temporary, and there is a cooldown period after dodging where the player cannot dodge.

The only way to hit the opponent with a punch is to wait for the opponent to attack, dodge that attack, then punch while the opponent is in the endlag of their punch. Each of the player's punches depletes one point of health from the opponent, and causes the music to speed up. The opponent has a level dependent number of Heart Points; the microgame is won when all of the opponent loses all of their Heart Points. Both this andDungeon Dilemma are the only boss microgames that never speed up.

• Level 1: Features an opponent with fair skin wearing a green hood with ears, green gloves, green shorts, and green shoes who has threeHeart Points.
• Level 2: Features an opponent with pale skin wearing a blue mask, yellow gloves, blue shorts, and yellow shoes that has four points of health. Once he is down to a single point, he performs a special move instead of punching normally. The special move has them glow while the screen distorts in a wave pattern, then progress into what appears to be normal punch. If the special move connects, the player is defeated instantly. As the special move is still a punch in nature, it can be dodged and opens up an opportunity for a successful punch. However, the extra tell for a special move means the timing for a successful dodge differs from a normal punch.
• Level 3: Features an opponent with dark skin wearing a yellow VR headset with black lens and black antennas, gray gloves, purple shorts, and gray shoes that has five health points, who is much faster than the other two. Also, this opponent can use the instant K.O. attack at any time. Like the opponent in level two, he always uses the instant K.O. attack once he is down to a single point.

WarioWare: Touched![edit]

Although the microgame is not inWarioWare: Touched! in its own right, the third level of the two microgamesButton Masher andFamicom are based on this microgame.

• Button Masher: After a short moment, a boxer in blue shorts will constantly charge super hits, but the player can punch them even in that state, in contrast to inMega Microgame$! andGold. The opponent has six HP, while the player has one HP.
• Famicom: The same boxer in blue shorts is fought against, who this time has nine HP. The boxer will not attack until the player has slid the in-game controller's volume slider to the right, but will immediately attempt a super hit once the player has slid it, leaving the player a short time to blow into the system's microphone to instantly empty the opponent's HP bar.

WarioWare Gold[edit]

All opponents now have only three health points. Instead of their whole body glowing to telegraph an attack, only their fist glows. The special move telegraph uses a yellow aura effect instead of distorting the screen, and its punch does not have the fist glow at all. Moreover, new characters serve as opponents. When they are defeated they land on the mat instead of staying off the screen. Also, Punch-Out can increase in speed as normal for microgames. All Boss Games inWarioWare Gold use both the Top and Touch Screens, though in this microgame most of the game occurs on the Touch Screen. The Top Screen displays their names, titles and portraits. A ticker on the Top Screen notes contains pieces of trivia about each. Unlike every other ticker in the game, this ticker cannot be fast-forwarded with.

• The first opponent is Lee Kasoop AKA "The Eye Stinger", a man wearing a leek hat. The pieces of trivia are as follows:
  • "Doesn't like how easy it is to hit him after he throws a punch."
  • "Loves to curl up by a fire with a good book. He's got layers!"
  • "This elite fighter was number two in his class at university."
  • "Height: 6'7 (1'8" onion). Weight: 114 lbs."
• The second opponent is Fun Gus AKA "The Musher", a man wearing a hat resembling a shiitake cap, who wears stickers depicting scars on his chest and arms. The pieces of trivia are as follows:
  • "His current hobby? Applying stickers and scars."
  • "When in trouble, he relies on his uppercut to turn the tables."
  • "Very popular with senior citizens."
  • "Rumor has it, his bathwater can be used as a stock for soup."
• The third opponent is Gaz Puncho AKA "Red Typhoon", an overweight man wearing a tomato mask. Unlike his equivalent inWarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, the first punch he uses must be a normal punch. The pieces of trivia are as follows:
  • "Inexplicably swears by a lycopene-only diet."
  • "With his weight, the power of his uppercut is unstoppable!"
  • "His belt was handmade by his biggest fan: his mom."
  • "He is the only heir to the Nazca tomato family fortune."

In the Challenge mode WarioWatch, the player's boxer does not have a health meter, and thus cannot be defeated by normal punches. The special blow is still able to defeat the player.

As with other elements of the microgame, the name of the microgame is taken from thePunch-Out!! series.
