Pulse Beams[1][2][3] are circular, spiked mechanicalenemies introduced inSuper Mario Galaxy. They create ringed lasers that spread outwards from them, and unlike theirSpring Vault andBall Beamer variants, they are each protected from above by a spiked top.
History[edit]
Super Mario Galaxy[edit]
Pulse Beams debutSuper Mario Galaxy and itsNintendo Switchport. They are stationary enemies that periodically fire lasers in a circular shockwave formation when approached, which will damageMario orLuigi if he makes contact with them. They cannot be destroyed or stunned by any means. They are featured exclusively inToy Time Galaxy ("Bouncing Down Cake Lane" only) andDreadnought Galaxy ("Revenge of the Topman Tribe" and "Topman Tribe Speed Run" only).
Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]
Pulse Beams reappear inSuper Mario Galaxy 2 and its Nintendo Switchport, functioning near-identically to their first appearance. Unlike inSuper Mario Galaxy, this incarnation of Pulse Beams can be stopped by theCo-Star Luma; however, it cannot be destroyed. They appear exclusively inShiverburn Galaxy ("Prince Pikante's Peppery Mood" and "The Chimp's Ultimate Skating Challenge" only) andGrandmaster Galaxy.
Super Mario Odyssey[edit]
Pulse Beams are obstacles inSuper Mario Odyssey. They were retooled with one spike instead of several and a black body instead of yellow. Unlike before, Pulse Beams can only pulsate manually by being hit withCappy or enemies, such asBullet Bills. Their electric rings can destroy someblocks and clear fog in Mario's path, but they also hurt him and any enemies they touch. Additionally, the rings can cause other Pulse Beams to be activated when collided with them, which in some cases can cause an infinite loop. They cannot be destroyed by any means.
