- “Boy, Princess really lives up to her name, doesn't she? Of course, she could also live up to the name Bruiser or Crusher or Goliath...”
- —Huey,Paper Mario: Color Splash
Princess is a femaleChain Chomp who appears inPaper Mario: Color Splash. During the game, she and her owner,Prof. Kinopio, go for a walk throughMondo Woods but never return. When Mario finds the professor weeping in the woods, it is revealed that Princess had escaped from her chain and ran away. AfterMario andHuey reachMarmalade Valley, it is implied that Princess had grown tohuge proportions as a side effect of the magicKamek had used to do the same to Mondo Woods. After escaping her destructive attack through the construction site, Mario and Huey must use theCutout technique inChâteau Chanterelle and theBone Thing to bait her back home. She acts very similar to a rolling Chomp after growing huge.
Princess reappears when using the Bone Thing card on an enemy, where she rolls over and damages them to get the bone.
She also briefly shows up during the "Prisma Prance Trance" celebration inPort Prisma after Mario collects the YellowBig Paint Star.
There are also pictures of Princess when she was smaller in the professor's house at Château Chanterelle, which show her and the professor playing. Here it is shown that Princess lacks the trapezoid-shaped connector between the chain and body, which were previously shown with Chain Chomps inPaper Mario: Sticker Star. This lack of connector would later be shared withPrincess fromPaper Mario: The Origami King.
An unused sprite of Princess is present in the game's data, resembling the design of Chain Chomps inPaper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, as opposed to the more recent design inPaper Mario: Sticker Star and the pictures of the younger Princess in the final game, due to theChomp Shark-like mouth with narrower fangs. The pink bow that Princess is wearing in the unused sprite is also shaped differently compared to that of Princess in the pictures.
