"Powerful Mario"[1] is a musical theme composed byKoji Kondo forSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, where it plays whenBaby Mario becomesSuperstar Mario, when playingMini Battles, and in certain sub-areas. It is an arrangement of "Invincibility BGM" fromSuper Mario Bros.. This arrangement introduces a countermelody that would later reappear inSuper Mario 64 and numerous later games.

Yoshi Touch & Go[edit]
InYoshi Touch & Go, an arrangement based onYoshi's Island's arrangement plays when Baby Mario collects a Super Star in Time Attack mode, which speeds up when the invincibility is about to wear off.

Super Mario series[edit]
Super Mario 64 / Super Mario 64 DS[edit]
Super Mario 64 andSuper Mario 64 DS use an arrangement titled "Powerful Mario" in theofficial soundtrack and the Nintendo Music app forWing Mario,Vanish Mario, and when a character rides or swims with aKoopa Shell. "Powerful Mario" reuses the countermelody fromSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island's arrangement, and is itself reused inNew Super Mario Bros., andSuper Mario Maker while Mario is wearing the Mariocostume and has Super Star invincibility.
Super Mario 64 DS[edit]
Super Mario 64 DS introduces arrangements of "Powerful Mario" for while the player character is ridingHoot and while Mario hasFloating Power. TheminigamesBounce and Pounce andBounce and Trounce use another variation as background music, where an electric piano takes over for both the melody and countermelody. This arrangement returns inNew Super Mario Bros. for the latter minigame, as well asBalloon Racing,Jumping Brothers, andJumping Sudden Death, and in the gallery of theNintendo DS version ofMario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. The minigame arrangement that returns inNew Super Mario Bros. is titled "Balloon Racing" in theNintendo Music app.
Super Mario Galaxy[edit]
Super Mario Galaxy uses an arrangement with the countermelody fromYoshi's Island's arrangement forRainbow Mario, which accelerates over time to reinforce that thepower-up is temporary.
Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]
Super Mario Galaxy 2 uses a slightly updated version ofSuper Mario Galaxy's arrangement with added cymbals.

InSuper Mario Run, a techno arrangement plays after obtaining a Super Star in Remix 10 mode. The theme incorporates the countermelody originally heard inSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga[edit]
InMario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, an arrangement ofSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island's arrangement titled "It's My Turn" is used during theStar 'Stache Smash minigame. In the game'sremake, however, an arrangement of "Do It Now!" fromMario & Luigi: Paper Jam is used instead.
