Pokeys[1]heading asmaller green Pokey are a type of enemy in theYoshi's Island series. This Pokey variety first appearsSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island andits reissue, and later appears inYoshi's New Island. In every appearance, if aYoshi defeats the smaller green Pokey on a Pokey's head, the grounded segment frowns and lies down, becoming harmless. However, it produces another smaller green Pokey shortly afterwards, and it resumes bouncing it. Pokeys cannot be defeated, with the exception of anAnywhere POW.
InYoshi's New Island, these Pokeys appear only inUnderground Pokey Patrol. Unlike inSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, the main body always hurts Yoshi regardless if its Pokey is taken or not.
The enemy's design and behavior seem to be based on thejumping cholla, a cactus known for its small, spiny buds that are easily detachable and mistaken as "jumping" onto objects that closely brush onto it.
