Plus and Minus Barrels[1] (also formatted as+ and − Barrels)[2] arebarrels inDonkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. Plus Barrels each depict a green plus sign, while Minus Barrels each depict a red minus sign. Plus and Minus Barrels are similar toStop & Go Barrels fromDonkey Kong Country mainly because they are both used to temporarily prevent an invincible enemy from attacking theKongs. Plus and Minus Barrels appear mainly inHaunted Hall, in midair and on the track rails throughout.Jumping at the Plus Barrels is required to increase the onscreen timer, though Minus Barrels are hazardous because they decrease the onscreen timer instead. If the timer reaches zero, the Kongs are attacked by theKackle pursuing them. In an earlier level,Rickety Race, there is a Plus Barrel at the start, hidden below a wooden platform. This Plus Barrel functions differently, because when the Kongs jump into the firstRoller Coaster, if the player holds Left on
as the race's start is signaled, the Roller Coaster moves backwards into the Plus Barrel, which speeds up the Roller Coaster to ride on the remaining track segment. Similarly, a Plus Barrel in Haunted Hall's firstBonus Area causes the Roller Coaster to travel backwards at a high speed.
