Pine is a somewhat elderlyMushroom woodcutter who lives in a small village located inWinterland. He has a wife and two children, the three of whom are extremely minor, unnamed characters.
History[edit]
Pine serves as the resident woodcutter for the citizens of Winterland, includingGramma Toadstool. One winter,King Koopa travels to Pine's village and steals everyone's supply of firewood. With no wood to keep warm with, the citizens freeze up, and remain that way untilToad arrives withMario,Luigi, andPrincess Toadstool, and thaws them out. Pine explains the situation to Mario's group, and while they go to work on gathering more firewood, Princess Toadstool leaves to visit Gramma by herself.
Gramma later pays a visit to Pine, claiming that she had just won a year's supply of wood. Pine explains that he didn't have any wood to give to her, implying that the contest she won was a hoax. With Mario, Luigi and Toad's help, they deduce that King Koopa made it up, and travel to Gramma's cottage, leaving Gramma back at Pine's. However, it is at Pine's cottage where Gramma is ultimately kidnapped by threeKoopa Troopas.
Eventually, Mario, Luigi and Toad rescue Princess Toadstool and Gramma from King Koopa, and are able to return all of the stolen firewood back to Pine, who distributes it out to the villagers, confident that it is enough firewood to keep them warm for the rest of the winter.
