Pidgits are small black or purple flightlesscrows[1][2] that act as the bringers of bad dreams, and soar through the skies atopmagic carpets. They first appear inYume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic andSuper Mario Bros. 2.

Pidgits have only one variant,Dodorigesu Jr., which are Pidgit children appearing inMario & Wario. They are visually similar to Pidgit's original 8-bit appearance, though they do not fly or ride carpets.

History[edit]

Super Mario series[edit]

Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic /Super Mario Bros. 2[edit]

Pidgit riding a flying carpet.
Original artwork of a Pidgit fromYume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic

Pidgits are a rare aerial enemy inSubcon, with one appearing inWorld 1-2, one inWorld 3-1, and two inWorld 5-3. Their magic carpets in this game were provided byWart.[1][3] The player usually needs to use their magic carpets to continue through these levels. Pidgits attack by swooping down. The player can defeat Pidgit by jumping on them and throwing them. The player can then ride the magic carpet for short distances. In the original version, Pidgits are colored black; in theSuper Mario All-Stars version, they are blue; inSuper Mario Advance, they are purple. Additionally, in the original version, their carpets are red and white, but in theSuper Mario All-Stars version, their carpets are orange and white, and in theGame Boy Advance version, they are red and white. The graphics for the magic carpet in the latter remake appear larger in-game due to being stretched, but are the exact same size as they were previously in the data.

Super Mario World[edit]

InSuper Mario World,Bullet Bills resemble Pidgits inFall, and are also renamed "Pidgit Bills". Their sprite is altered forSuper Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2, where they are given a flapping animation and look more like Pidgits in comparison to their static sprite in the original SNES title, and they are simply referred to as Bullet Bills.

The Super Mario Bros. Super Show![edit]

Pidgit

“It's no use! Pidgit's favorite food is carpet!”
Mario, "Mario's Magic Carpet"

Pidgits make a few rare appearances onThe Super Mario Bros. Super Show! They mainly appear in the episode "Mario's Magic Carpet", which is the only episode where they have a speaking role. Unlike the normal depiction of Pidgits, these Pidgits are capable of flying with their stubby wings rather than magic carpets, and their favorite food is said to be carpeting.King Koopa calls a service known asPidgit Express, and ordered for a dozen Pidgits to eat away at Mario's magic carpet. Luigi ends up remembering that he knew how to speak the Pidgits' own language (named "Pidgit"), and convinces them to eat away at King Koopa's magic carpet instead.

A single Pidgit makes a brief appearance in the episode "The Unzappables", where it plays an alto saxophone at theKoopa Klub alongside aGoomba pianist and aShy Guy cellist.

Nintendo Adventure Books[edit]

InBrain Drain, while inIggy Koopa's hideout after having his mind swapped with aKoopa Troopa's due to theSynapse Switcher, Luigi can order a pizza from Magic Carpet Pizza, a pizzeria run by Pidgits, if he punches the correct number into the cafeteria's KoopaFone.

Super Mario Bros. & Friends: When I Grow Up[edit]

In the coloring book game,Super Mario Bros. & Friends: When I Grow Up, the coloring page for Zoo Keeper features a Pidgit in a zoo. The description for the job is as follows:"Mario the zoo keeper think's he's one lucky fellow. After all, not many zoos in the world have such unusual creatures as Birdo, Tryclyde and Pidgit."

Super Mario-kun[edit]

Pidgit. Page 10, volume 8 of Super Mario-kun.
A Pidgit inSuper Mario-kun Volume 8

A Pidgit appears involume 8 ofSuper Mario-kun as Wart's assistant. It trapsMario,Luigi,Yoshi, and Birdo in its flying carpet to take them toSubcon, where its boss awaits them. The Pidgit is later seen beside Wart, commenting on the heroes' progress and the 8 bits' actions.

Wario's Woods[edit]

Additionally, a Pidgit[4] (known as the "Black Bat"[5] in the English translation) appears as one ofWario's monsters inWario's Woods, and overcomes theSprite during the common event of Wario replacingBirdo. The Pidgit serves the opposite purpose of the Sprite, hovering over the field and dropping extra monsters down onToad whileThwomps summonbombs. Two of them are also seen in the VS Mode, where they are tied to a gauge display rather than the appearance of Wario.

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

Mushroom Kingdom II from Super Smash Bros. Melee

Pidgits appear in the background ofMushroom Kingdom II, astage introduced inSuper Smash Bros. Melee and returning inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate. Here, a Pidgit rides a magic carpet, which players can jump on as long as the Pidgit is onscreen. While its magic carpet is three-dimensional, the Pidgit is a two-dimensional sprite.

TheSuper Smash Bros. series also has a few collectible items of a Pidgit. InSuper Smash Bros. Melee, there is atrophy of a Pidgit, and inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, there is an Advanced-classsupport spirit of a Pidgit that slightly increases the power of air attacks when equipped. InWorld of Light, thespirit can be found in theMysterious Dimension sub-area of theDark Realm. It takes place on the Mushroom Kingdom II stage and featuresPrincess Peach as the opponent.

Super Princess Peach[edit]

A Pidgit Bill seen in each ending of Super Princess Peach

InSuper Princess Peach, onceBowser is beaten, a cutscene follows where Princess Peach knocks Bowser out of the Castle, followed by several Pidgit Bills carrying signs spelling "NICESHOT!!". Another group appears with signs spelling "CONGRATULATIONS!" onceMario is saved.

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time[edit]

Pidgits appear as enemies inMario & Luigi: Partners in Time, and are located onYoshi's Island. To attack, a Pidgit rises high on its magic carpet, then swoops down into Mario orLuigi. If a Pidgit is on the left, it attacks Mario. If it is on the right, a Pidgit attacks Luigi. Occasionally, during its attack, a Pidgit jumps, briefly stalling and possibly throwing off Mario or Luigi's counter. Additionally, some Pidgits carry a bag in battle; these Pidgits have a higher speed rating than normal Pidgits, give up more coins if beaten, and canflee battle. They have a higher chance of fleeing if there is only one of them. In non-American versions, most of the normal Pidgits' stats have been decreased, and they also give lessexperience points.
