Perry is a supporting character inSuper Princess Peach. He is a magical talking parasol who aidsPrincess Peach throughout the game using various abilities, such as being able to destroy blocks, and pick up and eat enemies. He is also able to take on multiple different forms which allow Peach to reach different areas and perform different moves. His name comes from the word "Parasol".

History[edit]

Early life[edit]

InSuper Princess Peach, Perry's story is revealed through his dreams. Perry found himself on a mountain as a young boy, who did not know who he was, but had strange powers that allowed him to survive on the mountain. He met an old man, who took him home to protect him, and adopted him when he found out Perry had nowhere to go. They enjoyed each other's company, however, one day, when out for a walk, they were confronted by two mysterious figures. They demanded that the old man should hand Perry over, as they knew about his powers. The old man tried to protect Perry, but one of the figures used magic against them, and turned Perry into an umbrella. The pair were separated, however Perry managed to escape from the figures and attract the attention of a traveller, who took him to their shop. He remained in the shop for a while, untilToadsworth visited the shop and felt Perry's power, and then bought him. At the start of the game, whenBowser's Minions stole theVibe Scepter and used its power to kidnapMario,Luigi, and some of the Toads, Toadsworth gave Perry to Princess Peach to be her partner in rescuing them from Bowser's clutches. At the end of Perry's completed backstory dream after Luigi is rescued fromGiant Kamek, it is revealed that Perry would like to reunite with the old man he befriended before meeting Peach and Toadsworth, but wants to stay with Peach for a while until Bowser is defeated and Mario is rescued. It is implied that at the end of the game once the two aforementioned tasks are completed, Princess Peach and Perry set off together to find the old man and reunite him with Perry, to reward the latter for aiding Peach in her own mission throughout the whole game.

In the opening ofSuper Princess Peach, Toadsworth gives Perry toPrincess Peach to take with her to help rescueMario, telling her that he is no ordinary umbrella. Once opened, Perry introduces himself, telling Peach that he is great at beating bad guys and that he knows everything aboutVibe Island. Perry appears at various times on the DS's top screen to provide hints and instructions, such as on the file select screen. He also appears inPuzzle E: Beach with Peach.

In the game, Perry can be used to break blocks, help Peach float, pick up and throw items and enemies, defeat enemies, eat enemies to replenish a portion of theVibe Gauge, and assume a number of other different forms. Some of these forms are obtainable freely, while others must be purchased for varying amounts ofCoins at the shop. If Peach stands idle, Peach will check underneath Perry's canopy, he will trap her head and torso under his canopy, and Peach tries to wriggle herself out of Perry.

Message Blocks designed similarly to Perry also appear in the game, and when hit will prompt Perry to give the player various hints and instructions about nearby game elements and moves.

After Peach defeats Bowser at the end of the game, she uses Perry to swat him away fromhis villa. Afterward, Perry picks the lock to Mario's cell with his handle to free Mario, allowing him to share a joyful reunion with Peach.

Perry also stars in the promotional tie-in browser gameSuper Princess Peach -- Parasol Fall.

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

In theSuper Smash Bros. series, there are a few collectible items of Perry. InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl, he appears as both atrophy and asticker, and Perry is also seen being held by Peach in a sticker showing her artwork fromSuper Princess Peach. Perry also appears as aspirit inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, and reduces the fall speed of fighters after jumping. He is also mentioned in one of Peach'stips.

Perry's trophy textures inSuper Smash Bros. Brawl are named after Peach's textures, and Peach's parasol model contains his Japanese name, Kassā. These details suggest a possibility that Princess Peach'sPeach Parasol move was originally planned to feature Perry.

InSuper Princess Peach, Perry is shown to be able to break blocks, defeat enemies and pick up and throw objects. Once enemies have been picked up, he is also able to eat them to destroy them. Perry has various different forms that he can take to aid Peach in her adventure.
