Penguins are the basis of many creatures found within theSuper Mario franchise, the most iconic of which is a race of blue-feathered, stocky, sapientpenguins first seen inSuper Mario 64. In addition to these characters and species, generic penguins, often portrayed more realistically and not associated with a specific group, have also appeared occasionally throughout the franchise. This article documents such instances.

Pinball / VS. Pinball[edit]
Three penguins appear inscene A inPinball andVS. Pinball, as the default icons that appear on each of the threeslot windows. Stopping a slot window on a penguin while it is rotating earns the player 500points. Stopping all three slot windows on penguins raises theup-post and causes any points earned to be doubled while the up-post is raised.
The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3[edit]

Penguins are depicted inThe Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 episode "7 Continents for 7 Koopas", some of them wearing distinctive bow ties. They are terrorized inAntarctica by theAbominable Snowkoopa, a massive snowman brought to life byBig Mouth Koopa using amagic wand. Near the end of the episode,Luigi saves the penguins by stealing Big Mouth's wand and collapsing the Abominable Snowkoopa with it. The penguins then inexplicably become gigantic themselves and begin chasing Big Mouth through the icy landscape.
WarioWare series[edit]
WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$![edit]
Penguins appear in the microgamePenguin Shuffle ofWarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! In it, the player controls a short, blue penguin which must be walked in sync with a line of tall, gray penguins. If the short penguin collides with a tall penguin, the player loses the microgame.
WarioWare: Touched![edit]
In theWarioWare: Touched! microgameBirdcicle, the player must help a baby penguin cross a body of water by sliding some ice blocks to create a path.
WarioWare Gold[edit]

WarioWare GoldThe microgame Birdcicle fromWarioWare: Touched! returns inWarioWare Gold, prompting the player to help a baby penguin yet again. While the game also features an iteration of Penguin Shuffle fromWarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, now retitled "Paddle Parade", it features ducks instead of penguins.
WarioWare: Move It![edit]
TheWarioWare: Move It! microgamePure Waddle plays similarly to Penguin Shuffle; the player needs to keep a penguin in sync with other penguins in a line. The non-playable penguins may change speed or halt.
Wario: Master of Disguise[edit]
InWario: Master of Disguise, one of the exhibits in theSmithsnorian Museum is a penguin. As with all other exhibits in the museum, the penguin is the answer to one of the potential riddles in theSphinx Simulator—in this case, "What bird is always dressed for a fancy party?"
