Party Balls are objects in certainSuper Mario games. They are round capsules that contain many items, with some of them not containing items, instead being mainly used as platforms.

Virtual Boy Wario Land[edit]
InVirtual Boy Wario Land, Party Balls appear in theCoin Game, where they are held bybats and may containcoin bags orcrawling skulls.
Super Smash Bros. series[edit]
Party Balls in theSuper Smash Bros. series first appear inSuper Smash Bros. Melee and return in every following game,Super Smash Bros. Brawl,Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS,Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, andSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate. When thrown or attacked, they rise up and release items after a few seconds. Like thecrate, the Party Ball is a heavy item. Only very strong fighters, such asDonkey Kong orBowser, can walk with relative ease while carrying a Party Ball.
Party Balls have a 42% chance of releasing a random number of assorted items, a 36% chance of revealing exclusivelyfood items, and a 12% chance of dropping severalBob-ombs onto the battlefield (known as a "Bob-omb Fest"); the other 10% of the time, the Party Ball self-destructs. InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl, the Party Ball also has a chance of not releasing any items.
In theirtrophy descriptions throughout theSuper Smash Bros. series, Party Balls are shown to represent theSuper Smash Bros. series, not theSuper Mario franchise.
Super Princess Peach[edit]

Party Balls make their firstSuper Mario appearance inSuper Princess Peach, where they are semi-common objects. Party Balls here are depicted as floating, yellow-spotted blue balls with a ribbon and wings. WhenPeach finds one of these objects, she can open the Party Ball by usingPerry, or by throwing an object or enemy at it. Once opened, they releasecoins (and occasionally,hearts andcrystals) to collect.
In anearly version ofSuper Princess Peach, Party Balls had a slightly different design. They were originally less rounded at the bottom, and lacked wings.
Yoshi's Crafted World[edit]
Party Balls return inYoshi's Crafted World. Their design is based on aPiranha Plant. They appear in the levelJumping to Victory. Party Balls hang from the top of the screen, and can be used as platforms byYoshi. They come in two colors: red and blue. Red Party Balls contain objects such aseggs orcoins. Blue ones contain nothing and are mainly used as platforms. Party Balls sometimes move up and down.Spike the Piranha starts out as a red Party Ball.
A rare blue Party Ball costume can be randomly obtained atAcorn Forest for 200 Coins. No costume exists for a red one.
Paper Mario: The Origami King[edit]
APinata Ball appears in theWhispering Woods, hung next to a tree. If Mario tries to pull the vine rope to open it, the vine snaps off and theWhispering Trees remark on it. He instead musthammer the nearby tree to spawn aMagic Circle, and use the1,000-Fold Arms to pull open the Pinata Ball. It releases a burst ofconfetti and theShriveled Seed.
