ThePaintbrush is an item in thePC andSNES releases ofMario's Time Machine. It used to belong toMichelangelo Buonarroti while he apprenticed underDomenico Ghirlandaio and his brothers, but after Michelangelo left to pursue sculpting, it was taken by one of his fellow apprentices. This apprentice later gives the Paintbrush to a time-travelingMario inFlorence after Mario stops by for a chat. Mario can then bring it toRaphael Sanzio, who had previously mentioned that he needed a new paintbrush. Once received, Raphael admits to attempting to give Mario the "brush-off", but still decides to help Mario with finding out the owner of theChisel in Mario's possession.
