APaddle Platform[1] (formerly known as apaddle wheel)[2] is a roundplatform made up of four smaller platforms that typically moves ontracks (similar toFlatbed Ferries), appearing in numerous 2D platforming games of theSuper Mario franchise. Some Paddle Platforms, particularly those of theSuper Mario series, strictly move left and right, while others travel along paths or have a stationary pivot point. Either way, the player must walk on the platforms to make them start spinning.

Additionally, a new variety of paddle wheel with a pivot point resembling the spokes of a pedal-powered vehicle is showcased inSix-Face Sal's Fort and also occasionally appears inAt Last, Bowser's Castle!; when turned, they cause certain mechanisms to move.
Yoshi's New Island[edit]
Paddle Platforms return inYoshi's New Island. This time, they are slightly less common; while ones of numerous colors and consisting of five or three platforms appear in the levelSlime Drop Drama, one appears near the end ofDon't Fear the Spear, one appears in a secret area ofLose the Lunge Fish, and one with shorter platforms appears after the halfway point ofLeapin' Lava Meltdown. Paddle Platforms appear along tracked floors inMario Party 10, in the minigameRevolving Relay.
Donkey Kong franchise[edit]
Donkey Kong Country Returns (3D /HD)[edit]
InDonkey Kong Country Returns, itsNintendo 3DSport, and itsNintendo Switchport., Paddle Platform like objects appear in the levelFoggy Fumes. Here, they are sets of four platforms attached to each of a fan's four blades in the background. Foggy Fumes is a silhouette level, so only their silhouettes can be seen. Some of the fans have a blade that is damaged, and therefore only have three platforms. Items can be found on these platforms, likeBananas and aPuzzle Piece. Thefog all across the level can hide the platforms, including their items, from view.
Paddle Platforms have a number of different roles. Some of them have a finite number of Bananas]pop out and fly in an arc as they spin, aimed to the left and right based on the direction they are turning. Counterclockwise turns toss Bananas to the left, clockwise turns toss Bananas to the right. The stream of Bananas ends on aBanana Coin. If all Bananas and Banana Coins are collected from a single one of these fans, an item appears in the center to collect. Normally, this is aRed Balloon, but in one case a Puzzle Piece appears. At one point of the level, a fan has to be turned to move a wall out of the main path. When the wall has moved as far as it can go in one direction, the fan does stops moving in that direction. Counterclockwise turns move the wall away, clockwise turns return it to the base position. Left alone, the weight of the wall forces the platforms to turn clockwise.
At the end of the level, the player has toGround Pound a large red button, which moves a plug downward to complete a circuit. This turns on all the fans in the level, including these fans, and blows away the fog. This turns the level from a silhouette level into a normal level. These platforms cannot be interacted with after pushing the button, as triggering the button starts a cutscene that ends with the player forced inside aBarrel Cannon that sends them to a final section of the level. Said section has none of these fans and no way to return to an earlier point. The fans are also kept out of view as the fog clears.
